  • Family-run Somerset campsite near Bridgwater, with easy M5 access
  • A 15-minute drive to the Quantock Hills, and 20 to Burnham-on-Sea
  • Modern showers, communal kitchen and dog run; pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Looking for a quiet, family-orientated caravan park with generous-sized pitches in Somerset? Your search is over, for Newton Brook Caravan and Camping near Bridgwater is that place. It’s a friendly spot to overnight (it’s a short drive from Junction 24 of the M5 motorway) if you’re heading to Cornwall, or for longer stays if you’d like to make further forays into Somerset. Facilities to make life easy for families on site are tiptop, with a spotless, contemporary shower and loo block, plus a communal kitchen with fridges, microwave and washing-up sinks to make rustling up supper a breeze. North Petherton village (10 minutes’ drive) is the spot for picking up essentials in the convenience store (and it has a sprinkling of pubs and cafés if cooking is off limits on your holiday). As well as welcoming kids – there’s green space on site to play around safely and a smartly kitted-out games room to keep everybody occupied – the park is dog-centric too. Any canine with a zoomie attack can run around in the enclosed field, and there are walks aplenty along the Taunton Bridgwater Canal to tire everybody out (dog included). The park is located right next to a family farm, so you can often spot cattle and sheep grazing contentedly in surrounding fields, with the chance to see gambolling lambs in early spring and calves a bit later in the year.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We absolutely fell in love with this campsite. The facilities are spotlessly clean, modern and luxurious. The staff are unbelievably friendly and truly want you to enjoy your stay. They are so accommodating and we quickly felt like a part of the farm family. We cannot wait to go back. The site is so peaceful despite being very close to amenities. Everything you may need (tesco express / cafe) is within a 5 minute drive / 15 minute walk. Excellent phone and 5g signal. Fresh drinkable water points on pitch. Fresh flowers in the bathroom and utility rooms. Washing up liquid provided. No fight for facilities such as fridges and freezers, always plenty of space. An absolute gem.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: FABULOUS site - booked last min on PitchUp. Wonderful welcome from Rob, choose where you would like to pitch. The whole site is immaculate, toilet and shower block to the standard of a 5* hotel (fresh flowers and sweets). No check out time and the most wonderful games room with mini bar, speakers, pool, air hockey, darts etc. We loved it!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The site is lovely and mostly level. It’s very clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly. Showers were always clean and water was nice and hot. We were a group of 4 tents and were situated together.

Disliked: Could have done with a little play park maybe.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: An absolute gem with such friendly and helpful staff. Felt right at home straight away. Toilet and shower facilities are first class as is the washing up area and laundry. Each pitch has water supply and hook up. Being close to the M5 I expected a lot of road noise but this was not the case. You can hear it in the background but once inside our motorhome we couldn't or just barely if wind blowing in our direction. Nights were quiet so we always slept well. About a 15 min or less drive into Bridgwater town centre. All in all a very peaceful well run site and if we ever have to be in that area again we would not hesitate to return.

Disliked: Only grass pitches available. No hardstanding pitches.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Clean facilities, friendly welcome, cheap, dog friendly, sweets and flowers in the toilets, games room, able to pick your own spot, picnic tables, dog exercise field, dishwashing area with fridge/freezers and microwave. It was close to the motorway but you hardly could hear it.

Disliked: It was quite a bare field but they had planted trees so give it a few years.. There were a lot of caravans being used by workers. They didn’t bother us though but I know some people don’t like that.

Local attractions

If you’re planning on sticking around in Somerset for a while, you’re in pole position here for days out exploring by car. Head to north-coast beaches like Berrow (half an hour’s drive) and Burnham-on-Sea (20 minutes) for some family fun splashing in the shallows, or turn south and treat the kids to a day out on the rollercoasters and 4D rides at Crealy Theme Park and Resort (50 minutes). Rather explore on foot? There's plenty of choice for walkers around here, with the gorgeous Quantock Hills (15 minutes) or Blackdown Hills Areas of Outstanding Nature Beauty (40 minutes) riddled with hiking trails. Travel a little further and you can discover the walking routes of wild Exmoor, as well as historic spots like Tarr Steps clapper bridge (an hour) and the pretty town of Dulverton (50 minutes). Other places you might like to consider exploring are Wells (45 minutes), with its spectacular cathedral and castle, or funky little Glastonbury (40 minutes), awash with hippy shops and cute little cafés.
