  • Adults-only shepherd's hut on Exmoor, with stunning sea views
  • Close to South West Coast Path; five minutes' drive to Lynton/Lynmouth
  • Heating, insulation, ensuite shower room and kitchen included
Looking for a truly individual and memorable place to stay? Set your sights on the north coast of Devon and a stay at Dogsworthy Huts, an adults-only site in Exmoor National Park. The gorgeous shepherd’s hut that’s parked here was entirely hand-built by owner Danny, who crafted everything from the wheels through to the curtains. The result is an ingeniously designed space with bags of character and lots of useful features including eco-friendly sheep’s wool insulation, a comfy 4ft double bed and an ensuite shower room with flushing toilet. Plenty of other handy bits and bobs are included here too: the hut has a TV and a kitchen corner that’s got an oven, hob, fridge and kettle. Bed linen, towels, washing-up liquid, tea, coffee and toilet rolls are all provided, so you’ll be able to travel light for a stay here. And if you think the hut’s interior looks fabulous, just wait until you see what’s waiting outside… there are spectacular sea views from this lovely location about five minutes’ drive from Lynton and Lynmouth. The surrounding area is known as ‘Little Switzerland’ and this spot high up on a hill has stunning views all round – you can even see as far as Wales on a clear day. Fancy exploring on foot? It’ll take you just a few minutes to get from the hut down to the South West Coast Path, or you could set out on a rewarding 45-minute stroll to a popular local pub for tasty meals and drinks (booking ahead is a good idea in the summer months).

Shepherd's hut

Liked: Lovely made hut built by Danny. Its got everything you need for a relaxing break, it's spotlessly clean, warm, cosy, stunning views of the sea and surrounding fields. Teresa and Danny are lovely, friendly hosts. Would definitely recommend a walk around watermeets, its stunning. The hut is a short drive from lynmouth and lynton, both beautiful places. Would recommend the little cinema in lynton which is ran by volunteers and is such a cute, well priced little cinema. The fish and chip shop in lynmouth is amazing, great if your gluten free like us. Would highly recommend dogsworthy and would definitely be staying again

Local attractions

With a name like ‘Little Switzerland’ it should come as no surprise that there are some great options for walks around here. The nearest stretch of the South West Coast Path is a particularly striking one, leading to the Valley of the Rocks just west of Lynton and Lynmouth, or you can head to other fine walking areas like Watersmeet or Doone Valley (both 10 minutes’ drive). If you don’t mind travelling a little further, you can get to Exmoor top spots like Tarr Steps or Dunkery Beacon with a drive of 40 minutes or so. What north Devon has that Switzerland doesn’t, of course, is a coastline – and there are many ways to make the most of that. Head into Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes) to ride on the cliff railway and eat fish and chips, or head to Porlock (15 minutes) for paddleboarding and kayaking outings. Ilfracombe (half an hour) is the place for sea safaris and boat trips to Lundy Island.
