  • A 20-minute drive to Truro and 15 to Cornwall’s north coast beaches
  • Shop and dog-walking field on site; pub and bakery a 20-minute walk
Peace, quiet and not a child in sight… welcome to adults-only Chacewater Park in Cornwall, set in 11 acres of neatly kept tree- and hedgerow-lined grounds to make up a green and serene site. This is a preferred spot of many a dog owner and nature fan too, with a separate five-acre field that's home to rabbits and wildflowers. For human-centred entertainment, amble over to the local village, a 20-minute walk away, to sip pints in the pub, have a go at bowls or take part in one of the monthly quizzes. Both Truro and National Trust’s Trelissick Gardens are within 20 minutes' drive: time your visit to the latter just right to take in a traditional cream tea too… Back at the park, amenities include two separate shower blocks with shaving points and hairdryers, as well as two laundry areas. Fancy resting with a novel? Swap your last pageturner for your next at the book exchange and settle on the grass for a read. For all-essential eats, a bakery, chippy and convenience shop are close by, and supermarkets are less than 10 minutes' drive away in Redruth for a bigger stock-up.

Upper Meadow fully-serviced hardstanding touring caravan pitch (pet friendly)

Liked: Always lovely when we stay here! Reasonably gravelled level spacious pitches with grass next to it. The site is kept lovely and clean with the grass mowed everyday along with all the bins being emptied. Friendly staff. The showers and toilets are very clean and cleaned daily. Close to village shops. Large dog walking field. Onsite shop, although only ever brought gas cylinders from there. Elson point is large, clean and easy to use. The site is centrally placed for accessing all points of Cornwall

Disliked: Would like additional dog bag bins onsite, as the only one is in the dog walking field. Not sure if you are allowed to put the poo bags in the normal bins onsite I have never asked to be fair, if so there are plenty of them. WiFi this time was a bit hit or miss this though, not sure if that was the weather tho, as it was horrendous!

Upper Meadow Hay electric hardstanding touring pitch (pet friendly)

Liked: We were travelling with a dog, so were assigned a pitch in the "upper field". It was nearer to the dog walking field and shower block, so it was very convenient. The dog walking field was amazing - plenty of space and variation. There were even spades to assist in keeping the area clean. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Would stay again if in the area.

Disliked: Nothing - apart from a bit of difficulty finding the site, so perhaps more signs. But the next day we got back there very easily, so perhaps it was just us.

Upper Meadow Hay electric hardstanding touring pitch (pet friendly)

Liked: It was a very clean and level site, with all facilities close and easy to use. The staff were very friendly and helpful . There was fast food vendors on a few of the evenings which was great. The site is close to all the places we were interested in visiting, and the view from the site was nice. Very peaceful and I will definitely stay again.

Lower Meadow electric hardstanding touring caravan pitch (no pets)

Liked: We liked everything about this site, it was clean, tidy and well run. The toilets were cleaned regularly and were spotless at all times. Bins were emptied every day so no rubbish lying about. Julie and Rob were very helpful and friendly, with advice about buses etc if needed. The site is well placed in the middle of Cornwall with normally good access o all the tourist spots, I say normally because at the time of our two week stay the A30 road is being turned into the Truro bypass and chaos rules. All in all an excellent site well done to everyone.

Upper Meadow fully-serviced hardstanding touring caravan pitch (pet friendly)

Liked: Large level pitch, fully serviced grass and gravel. Well maintained and clean site, bins emptied every day! Dog walking field next to the site accessed via sites gate. Showers and toilets immaculately cleaned and maintained. Washing machine and a utilities room with a small charge to use for a spinner if you prefer to hand wash a few things. Central location and bus stop at the edge of the site to Central Truro! Best tasting bakery for cornish pasties in Chacewater itself, 15-20 minute walk into the village or 5 minute drive

Disliked: There is a haulage company just located behind this beautiful quite campsite and unfortunately some nights they were working in there until 10pm. Not the campsites fault or anything they can do about it but because it's so quiet it did keep us awake

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi we are pleased you enjoyed your stay and thankyou for your review! The noise you experienced is not from a haulage company, Truro tractors are a distributor of farm machinery, so do not run machinery. The noise is from a gentleman who has been digging footings for his new house and is a temporary issue although we will have a word to see if he can limit the hours. We hope to see you again next year!

Local attractions

Circled by farmland in the centre of west Cornwall, Chacewater Park is in the middle of England’s UNESCO-listed tin mining lands. If you’re coming to this Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape region by public transport, you can easily catch one of the regular bus services from Truro, Redruth, Penzance or St Ives. Driving? The park’s minutes from the A30, meaning the sandy, cliff-backed beaches on the county's north coast, like Portreath, Saint Agnes and Porthtowan, are reachable in no more than 15 minutes. Up for walking? Join the Mineral Tramways Coast to Coast Trail, running from Portreath to Devoran on the south coast, and follow in the footsteps of horse-drawn trams from days gone by. Low-key wanders can be had at Tehidy Country Park, a 15-minute drive to the north, in 250 acres of woodland and lakes with nine miles of trails. To up the pace a little, you can get in a round of golf on the course under 15 minutes' drive away – or ask the site’s friendly staff to help you organise a boat ride on the River Fal.
