  • Family-friendly site in the Cornish countryside next to a Fun Park
  • Newquay beach, steam railway and Eden Project within 20 minutes' drive
  • Discount entry to Fun Park with petting zoo, play barn and pony treks
Ah the Cornish countryside… The roll of the surf, the call of the chough bird and the purring of the alpacas… You’d normally find the latter in Latin America but that’s one of the many special things about at a stay at Springfield Fun Park. Bag a berth on this green site five minutes’ drive from the village of St. Columb Major, and you get discounted access to everything going on next door at the fun park for the duration of your stay (up to seven days). You might need that long to meet the alpacas Rolo, Morgan and Zeus, greet Bill the goat, bond with the bunnies, pony-ride your way round the park’s quartet of lakes and ancient woodland and hurtle about on the wooden castle, trampolines, slides and go-karts in the play barn… You can also take a puffing, chuffing, tooting train ride round the park, a crowd-pleaser for the smaller visitors but also giving their loving parents a much-needed sit down. The café serves drinks, hot meals and snacks between 10am and 4.30pm, making it a handy choice for a late breakfast or an early dinner. When the day trippers depart at night, there’s nothing finer than sizzling up an outdoor feast on a barbecue, gazing at the night sky and listening out for the occasional owl (the alpacas turn in early, apparently…).

Electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We arrived early to the venue and the lady on the desk was happy to help and let us get onto our pitch at 12pm. The fun park there seemed nice and looked like kids could have lots of fun. The pitch itself was a very good size as we have a trailer tent and large awning. There is a small park in the middle of the field that all pitches are able to see so again this is really good if you have children that want to go and play. Close to Newquay Town and facilities so handy for this. Camel Creek adventure Park is 15 minute drive away also. Plenty to do locally

Disliked: The cleanliness of the site could have been better. The toilets/showers were pretty dirty the day we arrived (Monday) so would have thought they would have been cleaned. The chemical disposal point was blocked and was this way for about 4 days. The bins were all rammed and hadn't been emptied in some time.

Electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The adventure park was definitely a very good plus! The children loved it & with it being included in the camping price was fab!

Disliked: The pitch was very muddy, with in the first hour of being there one of my sons got punched by other children who stayed in caravans across the field who I can assume are there on a more permanent basis. They were also quite mean to the children that was camping next to us. These said children also broke the swings that were in the park on the campsite. The showers/toilets were dirty, water wasn't a consistent temperature either hot or cold! We was there for 2 nights and in them days the loo roll weren't replaced once!

Electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: First of all for the price we paid we cannot moan. Great size pitches and a nice quiet site. On site fun park wasn't nothing special but better than expected and my 5 year old loved it and loved the pony rides. Showers were clean and tidy. Overall it's a good point of base and many places within a good distance. Keep in mind shops and things like that aren't within walking distance so you will need to always drive which doesn't bother us and isn't an issue... Well it wasn't until our car broke down🤣 Like I said though other all for the price we can't moan. Nice clean and tidy site and nice pitches and my son loved it.

Local attractions

Alongside forays into the fun park, there’s a fine spread of family activities and attractions close by. For a quick trip, go to see the owls at close quarters at the Screech Owl Sanctuary, five minutes’ drive away. For further wildlife spotting, it takes around 15 minutes to walk the trail through wide open heathlands and wetlands at the Goss Moor Nature Reserve, home to roe deer, butterflies and shrikes. A similar distance away, see more beasts at the aquarium and zoo in Newquay. The town’s a magnet for surfers and watersporters of every stamp, so get down to the beach if that’s your bag, or take a short clifftop trek along the South West Coast Path to the quieter Whipsiderry beach for rockpooling and cave exploring. Up for more train time? Take the Lappa Valley Steam Railway (15 minutes) for whistling whistlestop rides through the countryside or walk and bike along the now-repurposed railway line of the Camel Trail, 18 miles of level paths and cracking views beginning 20 minutes away in Padstow. Also 20 minutes away, and drawing visitors from all over, is the Eden Project, vast biodomes encasing an indoor rainforest; the elegant blooms of the Lost Gardens of Heligan are just over half an hour away.
