  • Quiet back-to-basics site on a working farm in Illogan
  • Golf course, trampoline park and watersports lake within 20 minutes
  • 10 minutes' walk from village pubs and 45 from Portreath beach
A working farm on the edge of a Cornwall village, with easy access to country footpaths and a 45-minute saunter from the beach… the kind of place one could settle in for a lifetime, eh? The folks at Hillcrest Views Campsite certainly think so – the family set up home here over 80 years ago and haven’t budged since. Current owner Amy’s now welcoming guests to share in her tribe’s special spot while making sure it doesn’t lose its peaceful vibe – thus the small site has pleasingly spacious pitches but only basic amenities. Flick through the pics and you’ll note some gorgeous rural views: a fab backdrop for stoking up a barbecue while the kids race about playing games. Admire those views for a bit and you’ll probably think you’re in the middle of nowhere, so it’s pleasing to remember that you’re a mere 10-minute amble from Illogan village and its pub, shops and chippy (plus a pasty shop, of course – a staple in these parts). If you’re doing DIY dins, supermarket supplies for your meals can be picked up in Redruth, 10 minutes’ drive away. You could spend many a day wandering on local trails and beaches, but if you’ve brought the kids it’s handy to know that you’re less than 15 minutes’ drive from all sorts of family attractions, including a castle, a trampoline park and a watersports centre. It’s also just a mile or so to the A30 for those looking to head to more far-flung attractions like St Ives or the Eden Project.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Individually marked pitches with little hedge rows making it feel private, very clean facilities, extremely helpful staff

Disliked: The weather, nothing about the site to dislike just wish we hadn’t come down when there was a storm

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Sandra for your kind words and feedback. It has been quite some start to the season and so far from what we wish to share with customers. We are very grateful for your custom, your understanding and I hope you all had a wonderful time at the wedding celebrations. Best wishes Amy, Roger and family

Disliked: You'll need a car to be able to get around from this spot.

From the manager: Thank you Fay for your custom and your time in reviewing us. I'm sorry you couldn't have enjoyed better weather conditions for your stay with us but so pleased you enjoyed what we could offer and we are very grateful for your custom and understanding! Siobhan G. The reviewer booked through Pitchup.com

Fully-serviced grass and gravel tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Very friendly and accommodating despite the awful weather Very clean facilities with double hot showers Good size pitches Wonderful views

Disliked: If you want peace and quiet I wouldn’t recommend pitches 7 or 8 in the ‘meadow’ as next to a loud workshop.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much Siobhan for your very kind review. This has for sure been our most challenging period to date with exceptional weather for months and a storm passing through over Easter. We are so grateful to all of those we were able to accommodate and all the co-operative works that went on to make the most of an undesirable start to the season and to customers Easter breaks. Thank you for your custom and understanding and we wish you all the best for the rest of the year! Amy, Roger and family

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: We absolutely loved staying here, the views were spectacular. We booked on route, so didn't get a chance to check out the site properly, but following Google maps this was an easy to find site, you give them a call upon arrival and one of two lovely people come to meet you, with a lovely warm welcome. This site is superb, we found the pitch to be perfectly set out, each one numbered, with low hedges separating your pitch from your neighbours, to give much needed privacy. There were plenty of wash up areas, covered to save you from the elements, with running hot and cold water, and washing up liquid provided, along with taps for drinking water, we didn't use it but there was a chemical waste area, which was sheltered from view so as to empty with privacy. The toilet block was spotless, several large toilet cubicles, and plenty of toilet paper was provided, with, from memory 3 shower cubicles in the block, the one we went to had 2 showers' installed and so was suitable for 2 persons in a cubicle at a time, so myself and hubby could have showered in the same cubicle, thus saving time, which we thought was a great idea. A couple of nearby pubs which served food, along with a takeaway and convenience store close by. We absolutely could not fault Amy and Roger, they went out of their way to make our stay as perfect as it could be, given the torrential rain we had, which they had no control over, we, along with others, ended up getting our campervan stuck the first morning, after leaving our plot, sadly the copious amounts of rain had caused the grass to become sodden, and driving on it quickly churned it to mud, but Roger rushed to our aid, and sorted our freedom from the mud, whilst we were off for the day sightseeing in the rain, Amy and Roger were busy organising a new plot for us to come back to, which was gravel, thus leaving us safe for the night and giving us an easy drive away the next morning. We honestly can not fault either Amy or Roger, they were so kind and really did have our best interest at heart, this was out of their control, and unusual weather conditions, but Mother nature threw them a curve ball and they rose to the challenge. you have everything you need being here, and it is a short drive or walk to the store if you need something.

Disliked: Our only dislike, and this is not about the site, but was that the nearby pubs stopped serving food by the time we arrived and didn't serve food in the evenings that we were there, this is not the sites fault, but there was a nearby convenience store that we managed to get food from as you need it.

From the manager: Wow! Thank you so much for such a wonderful review. It was a pleasure having you both on site and we really appreciated how understanding all our customers, including yourselves have been, with the exceptional weather conditions at the moment which have been a teacher to us over the last few weeks. Your reflections are so gratefully received and I'm pleased we could help in the little ways possible under such challenging conditions and that you enjoyed the local area and amenities. I hope you enjoy the rest of your travels and I wish you all the best until we see you again. Amy, Roger and family

Andrew w. The reviewer booked through Pitchup.com

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Great communication from the iff, letting us know the process for getting to the site and being welcomed by Roger as we turned up. All of the pitches were of very good proportion and settling in wasn't an issue. Wife thinks the facilities for toilet and shower are the best of the year so very high praise and a credit to Roger keeping them fresh and clean throughout our stay. The camp site is a slightly strange in getting onto it but you won't be disappointed in any way. Fantastic base for any exploration with virtually anywhere in the bottom corner of Cornwall only 35-40 minutes away. Take your time to visit it's well worth the trip and brilliant job by Roger.

Disliked: Nothing

From the manager: Thank you so much Andrew for your incredibly kind words and your custom. Roger loved his chats with you and I'm so pleased you enjoyed our site. I hope you have a wonderful New Year and wishing you all the best for 2024. Amy, Roger and Family

Nicola C. The reviewer booked through Pitchup.com

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: Great customer service and greeting on site, upgraded to hard pitch at no extra cost as better in the weather. Facilities being built and what’s done so far looks great

Disliked: Bit tight to get the van in as the work being done has changed the access route

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank Nicola for a wonderful review. I'm really pleased you enjoyed your stay and thank you very much for your custom. Final section of concreting to be done soon and then we are back to a "normal" access so thank you very much for your understanding with this. Best wishes for the rest of the year, Amy, Roger and family

Coming from Redruth, enter Illogan coming up a large hill. At the brow of the hill you will see two chapels opposite one another. Take it slowly here, as the site is 50 yards further on, on the right-hand side opposite a little crossroad sign for Richards Lane. Look out for a concrete lane with central grass verge between two white cottages; this leads up to the site.
