General

  • Off-grid luxury glamping site overlooking the spectacular Porth Valley
  • Three miles from Newquay and heaps of attractions
  • Private terrace with firepit barbecue, outdoor kitchen and log supply

Might you rather like your own extra-roomy luxury yurt with a private outdoor kitchen, terrace and firepit, as well as the use of several swanky wetrooms, a converted-barn café and a sunbathing terrace, madame or sir?

You've got all this and more at Real Glamping at the Fir Hill: its location among the handsome hamlet of Colan means you're a mere three miles from the popular seaside town of Newquay and close to heaps of smashing beaches, towering cliffs and coastal walks along the north coast of Cornwall.

This eco-friendly estate is self-sustaining and totally off-grid, with its own natural springwater supply and power source generated using only biomass and solar energy. Ten solar thermal panels, a turbo log boiler and two thermal stores provide all the underfloor heating and hot water to the site's amenities; 40 solar photovoltaic panels produce power; and a battery storage room stores any energy that's been generated during the day ready to keep the site cosy and well lit in the evening.

Each of the extra large traditional Mongolian ger-style yurts is decked out super tastefully and equipped with comfy proper beds and plush bed linens. Barbecue facilities and a food prep area are provided near the yurts, and you can fuel your campfires with the wood and fire-lighting equipment that comes ready supplied. Your own private outdoor kitchen area includes a gas stove for tea and coffee making; a cool box; crockery, glasses and utensils; pots and pans; running water for washing up; and tea and coffee making facilities.

Food for alfresco feasts can be ordered online and delivered direct from a local supermarket, and various takeaway and delivery services operate locally too for whenever you fancy a night off grill duty. If you're coming with a group of 10 or more and would rather focus on being the host(ess) with the most(ess), you can relieve yourself of barbecue duties and leave the job with the Fir Hill folk for a fixed fee by pre-arrangement; and it's worth noting that while the site isn't licensed to serve you boozy bevs, you're more than welcome to bring your own.

Communal facilities include a café and cosy quiet room in the super-modern converted barn, as well as an upper terrace that's the ideal spot for sunbathing sessions.

Among the site's many spiffing and sparklingly well-kept amenities are a luxury shower block with eight showers and toilets.

A luxurious substitute for camping, much less hassle and comfortable. 01/09/2018

My big family and I have just arrived home from an indescribably amazing holiday, glamping in one of the very spacious and luxurious Yurts.
I must admit I was unsure about glamping, having been camping lots in tents I was apprehensive at how you could put all the homely comforts into camping, having never done it. However, all of that was brushed off when we arrived at the Fir Hills and were greeted by Keith and Lily the friendly dogs and the hospitable Charlie himself.
I absolutely loved the facilities and communal areas especially the lounge and the washing facilities were very clean, spacious and practical.
I would love to bring my friends here for a stay and would definitely come with my family again, hopefully for a bit longer this time! PS: Being able to make your own fire and maintain it all of the time is such a bonus. 5/5.

It was off the grid! Absolutely brilliant, very clean, very spacious! Kids (8+10) loved it, lots of room to play games, walk and the main house was great of an evening as they grouped with other children making smores! Very quiet and peaceful, plenty of room between hurts which were the biggest I've seen! All cooking equipment supplied- we literally took our clothes, towels, games and food! The shower/toilets we're cleaned daily and great facilities open 24/7which is great as we sat out with our fire pit (supplied) till it was pitch black watching the star constellations

Thanks for the kind comments...particularly about being offgrid. We believe we are the only Glamping site in the UK that is totally offgrid.
There is a reason for this...expense and hassle..and it is important that future guests who read these comments understand this point.
It was a pleasure having you to stay....it is a shame I wasn’t aware you were star gazing..I would have joined you if I had known (I would have loved to learn more about our constellations !)

Lovely site with spacious pitch size overlooking a peaceful valley. The yurt was well equipped and the beds were extremely comfortable. Running water, ice box, camping stove, bbq, plates, glasses, cups and bed linen were all supplied We didn't even need to bring cutlery. Staff were very friendly and helpful and facilities were excellent. A very relaxing stay but if you wanted more action Newquay is very close with its beautiful beaches. I would definitely recommend it.

Everything, great setting, close enough to beaches but beautifully quite. Dog also loved her stay and even climbed a tree!

    Disliked:

Nothing, apart from having to go home.

From the manager...

Thank you for this review..and indeed your kind words.
We positioned the dog yurt area away from the main traditional (dog free) area deliberately (given not all guests are dog lovers), and therefore this area is further way from the main communal facilities (which include the wifi hub....).
Thank you for pointing out (for the benefit of future guests) that the wifi is relatively poor in this area, and apologies if you feel we mislead you in any way (this was not our intention !).
We look forward to seeing you and your unusual tree climbing dog again !!!
