  • 'Wild glamping' in a 40-acre ancient woodland, for exclusive use
  • Watersports, mountain biking and steam railway within 25 mins' drive
  • Bell tents on the banks of the river, with beds and firepit provided
Wild glamping… what’s that? Well, it’s a fine mix of the peace and freedom of wild camping coupled with the added comfort of a glamping break. And the place to try out such a thing is at Caradon Woods Camping, in the Cornwall countryside 10 minutes’ drive from Callington. Two-night stays at this rural site should give you plenty of time to explore your surroundings – you’ll be pitched in a three-acre meadow on the banks of the river, with exclusive access to a large chunk of pristine woodland. And it’s all reserved for the use of you and your gang: take a dip in the river if you like, look out for the wildlife around the place, or embrace the wild side of things by hanging out in a hammock in the trees (stay there all night if you fancy a properly memorable night under the stars…) Rather embrace the comfier side of things? That’s perfectly fine too: the three bell tents (available to one group only) will be set up with camp beds (although you’ll need to bring bedding), and you’ll have access to a large covered A-frame area with tables and seating for your meals. There’s also access to compost loos, a basic solar shower and plenty of fresh water. Meals here are best cooked up on the firepit – it comes with a supply of wood, a tripod, a hot plate and a large kettle, plus a couple of large pans, a spatula and a ladle. You’ll just need to turn up with a recipe, and source some supplies (perhaps from a couple of farm shops 10 minutes’ drive away). Don’t worry about having to lug your kit around: upon arrival your stuff will be transported to the camp area by four wheel drive.
