  • Furnished bell tents with firepits; shared camping kitchen and a pool
Time to get away to Cornwall, just the two of you? Ramp up the romance factor with a stay at Barley Fields Glamping, a hilltop glampsite in the sleepy village of Mornick. Fully furnished bell tents await at this peaceful hideaway, set in an acre of leafy countryside and with lovely views over Cornish hillsides to the landmark Kit Hill. What to expect on site? A bell tent with double bed, storage, bedside cabinets and lighting – plus bunting to light up at night for that festival feel – and spaced out in woodland or wildflower meadows for total privacy. Outside each tent is picnic seating and your own firepit for alfresco cooking – pick up supplies in Callington (10 minutes’ drive) – as well as a shared field kitchen for rustling up basic meals. On balmy days, take a dip in the outdoor, unheated plunge pool or laze around on the decking surrounded by lush tropical plants. Peace is ensured as the site is strictly adults-only and hen or stag parties are not allowed. However, dogs are permitted, so bring any family pets to join you on rural rambles through fields and along quiet lanes. There are free-range hens about the place too, all bossed about by Frizzle the cockerel, and cows graze contentedly in neighbouring fields.

Local attractions

Barley Fields Glamping is nicely placed for expeditions to Cornwall’s spectacular coasts, with medieval Tintagel Castle, waterside Boscastle and Port Isaac fishing village all within an hour’s drive northwards. Turn south to feed turtles at the National Marine Aquarium and a date night in the restaurants of Plymouth (40 minutes’ drive), or pick a warm day and have a walk along the sand-and-shingle beach at Seaton (35 minutes). If you’re feeling brave, head for the zipwires and floating climbing course at Adrenalin Quarry (half an hour). If that’s a step too far in the activity stakes, Bodmin Moor (15 minutes) offers up historic treasures such as the Neolithic menhirs at Hurlers Stone Circles (20 minutes), fantastic views across the moor from the great granite slabs of The Cheesewring, and gentle forest walks up to the cascading Golitha Falls (both 25 minutes). Still on the moor, learn about local history with a spooky and all-immersive guided tour of Bodmin Jail Attraction (35 minutes), or head into the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to explore the Victorian watermill and former working quayside at National-Trust owned Cotehele (25 minutes).
