  • Scenic and spacious site with private woodland to explore
  • A 15-minute drive to Canterbury or Dover
  • Dogs, campfires and barbecues welcome; walks straight from the site
Get set for time well spent in Kent – scenic seven-acre site Coxhill Camping is an excellent pick for folk looking to relax and/or explore. The grass pitches at this working arable farm are surrounded by mature trees, and there’s a rather fine 10 acres of private woodland attached to the site – with direct access making it easy for guests to explore. It’s a friendly place: families, couples, solo travellers and dogs are all welcome, and it’s a pick-your-own-pitch setup so you can choose the spot you most like the look of. Whichever one you choose, there’s plenty of space to spread out and to play games if you like. This is a particularly good spot for walkers, as there are paths running straight from the site and the local village of Shepherdswell is on the North Downs Way (also making this a good stopover option for those taking on the whole trail…) Other days out nearby might take you to Canterbury, to the White Cliffs of Dover or to the beach – all are within a 15-minute drive. And that proximity to Dover also means that this is a handy spot for those needing an overnight stay before/after a ferry journey. As for facilities, there are firepits to hire (with logs and kindling for sale) and you’ll have access to well-maintained flushing toilets, showers, a cold-water washing-up area, drinking water taps and grey waste/chemical disposal points. Shepherdswell, under a mile away, has a pub, shop and playground as well as a train station for mainline services and heritage rides on the East Kent Railway (the station also has a café).

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Basic peaceful dog friendly camping with lovely walks to the village and a woodland walk. Spotless toilet and shower facilities. Nice personal touches here and there. We'll worth a stopover, Shepherdswell train station about 20 mins walk. Plenty of space.

Disliked: Some overnight noise during our stay possibly from roadworks at no fault to the site.

From the manager: Thanks for a wonderful review Anthony!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Big flat open field. Great facilities. Impressive individual toilet and shower units that where spacious, clean with good nature light as well as good lights at night. Stayed at a few sites this years and this has been the best I have seen. Music not allowed which suited me.

Disliked: nothing

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice open field with plenty of space between pitches Great transport links by both car and train with main line service within reasonable walking distance. Quiet at night , although there is some slight road noise from the busy A2 but really appreciated the no generator policy (which is one of my bug bears) Whilst no shop facilities on site the village with shop, pub and train station is within a reasonable 5 min drive or a very pleasant 20min walk across the fields

Disliked: Toilets are clean and quite pleasant but: No hot water in the toilets. No plugs in the sinks Self cancelling taps stop as soon as you take hand of them The Above make having a wash or shave very difficult !!! Showers are again clean and quite present but they are drafty and you certainly know it on a cold windy day !! No plug socket in either toilets, showers or anywhere else on the site so nowhere to plug in a hair drier. A real problem as my girlfriend has long hair but luckily this was on a quite nice day, but could be quite an issue on a cold damp day.

From the manager: Thanks for leaving us a review. Our facilities are basic but as you say always kept wonderfully clean. Thanks for visiting! Emily

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Showers were brilliant, friendly little pitch, nice and quiet for the most part. Which given we have our own children is actually pretty spectacular. Would absolutely stay again. We didn’t use the Wi-Fi but have marked 5 as I’m not sure Wi-Fi is something we’d even want to have when touring and they shouldn’t lose points for it.

Local attractions

Getting out into Kentish countryside is easy, beginning with a historical sort of trip from Shepherdswell station 10 minutes' walk away. This is a stop on the East Kent Railway, a heritage railway that will shuttle you through the Golgotha Tunnel and Kent countryside. Of course, it’s likely you’ll want to see Dover Castle and the White Cliffs (15 minutes' drive). Margate (35 minutes) is another popular pit stop, with vintage rides at Dreamland as well as the buzzy beachfront. St Margarets Bay (15 minutes) is quieter, but just as splendid. Those of you familiar with the Canterbury Tales – or, in fact, anyone wanting to do a bit of sightseeing – should head to Canterbury (15 minutes) too. Other cool spots? Driving diggers at Diggerland Kent (45 minutes) is high up there. Wingham Wildlife Park (20 minutes) too, especially if you’re an animal fan. Once a favourite haunt of smugglers, and now well suited to those who like the smaller seaside town vibes, is Deal (20 minutes).
