  • Five fishing lakes with 100+ pegs and carp up to 22lb
  • Tackle shop; licensed bar-restaurant on site open on select days/times
To Essex! And to angling followed by peaceful eves by the lake… take your tackle to Colemans Cottage Fishery to get hooked on these green and serene surrounds. There are five fishing lakes on this lush Essex site, home of over 100 pegs and stuffed with specimens of roach, bream, barbel, rudd and carp of up to 22lb. Fishing is via day tickets bought from the Colemans Cottage tackle shop, where you can also top up your kit, buy bait, or swap tales of whoppers and fishing tips with the expert staff. And if you're not a fishing sort? Also sorted: Colemans is a mile and a half from the village of Witham, from which you can reach Colchester in 15 minutes' drive in one direction and Chelmsford in 25 minutes in the other for days of shopping and sightseeing. Maldon and Mersea Island are within easy reach too, as is Southend for days at the Essex coast. Whatever your plans for the day, there's a warm welcome at the site's Waterside licensed bar and restaurant (open Thursday through until Sunday for breakfast and brunch). The menu offers up full breakfasts, homemade brunches, desserts and seasonal dishes, along with drinks to raise a glass to the catch of the day.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely everything. Arrived on Friday to Monday for the Easter bank holiday weekend, upon arrival we were greeted right away by the owner who was lovely. Felt like a home from home 🏡 The pitch location was perfect and very peaceful. Wish we could have stayed a lot longer 😢 Can't wait to go back very soon. The bar and breakfast - 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Most of all no children onsite 👌 pure bliss!!!

Disliked: Nothing to say here 👍👌

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: This is definitely a site of two different characters. On one hand the cafe is brilliant, the staff very friendly and helpful and the views of the lakes splendid. But then where you camp feels hidden at the back and a bit unloved. I turned up to one unit with cans scattered on the floor. The A12 is really close making it really easy to get to and to get around,.but then there is the constant drone. In summation I would stop again, but only as a stop over

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: We stay here often, it is a peaceful rural setting and the owners are friendly and welcoming. It is ideal for those that love to fish or just to take a stroll through the countryside or chill and relax. The bar/restaurant has an outdoor seating area and a lovely deck area overlooking the lakes and does a great breakfast. The site is easy accessible, being just off the A12 but this does mean that you do get a bit of background traffic noise when outside but it has never stopped us having a good nights sleep!

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely place to get away with lakes across the lawn, and places to explore. We stayed for four nights. The shower works fine. The toilets and facilities were clean and well maintained. There are two toilets and one shower - see my pics. The site was quiet and we'll return if we visit the area again. There's a lovely cafe on the site for the fishermen and you can eat there if you like, enjoying beautiful lakeside views! We enjoyed walks around the lakes, you can do kayaking or paddle boarding if you want to, and the owners are delightful. I got the wifi code from the cafe and was able to get online too, at no extra cost, which was excellent.

Disliked: The campsite grass could do with some reseeding, but it must be difficult when you have vehicles coming and going, especially when it's been a rainy summer.
