  • Adults-only peaceful and scenic site on a fruit farm in the High Weald
  • A 30-minute drive from Hastings, 40 minutes from Royal Tunbridge Wells
  • Yoga, kayaking, wild swimming, spa treatments; café/farm shop nearby
For hols where leaving the site will be hardly necessary, you can’t go wrong with Quarry Farm in East Sussex – the adults-only spot just outside the village of Bodiam will be sure to keep guests of all stripes busy and entertained during stays. At the nearby café and farm shop (the Hub), guests can of course partake in locally sourced eats, and spend time poring over shelves of artworks, pottery and fresh produce, but it’s in the extra-curriculars where the Hub really shines… In need of some relaxation? Wander along to the wellness centre for yoga, Pilates, spa treatments or a massage (contact the Hub directly). Want to be more active? Try paddleboarding, kayaking, foraging, wild swimming or triathlon training. The site team also has contacts in the area who can help set up classes on everything from ceramics to wild cocktail creation. You are encouraged to contact the Hub directly to make any bookings for activities. Please note that the Hub is not open between December and Easter, and that water sports are not available during the winter. If a change of scenery is needed, plenty hereabouts will entice. The site is on a fruit farm in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it should come as no surprise that myriad paths and trails to follow are within easy reach, starting with a five-minute ramble across fields to the Kent and East Sussex Railway station in Bodiam from where guests can catch the steam train to Tenterden, a pretty place that's home to lots of lovely shops and eateries.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Very quiet and peaceful. Very much a basic, no frills or faff sort of place. Cash on arrival and unbothered the whole time we were there. Water and waste disposal available for our camper. Nice cafe up the lane. Lovely stay, thank you.

Disliked: Not a dislike as we had our own but a warning for others in case. No toilet or shower facility.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: This is a very mixed review on the one hand the site is in a great Location and fairly peaceful. Easy walking to Bodiam village, castle and pub. The Hub in the next field is a cracking place to be close to, great coffee cake and more, they did wine and cider tastings tapas and sangria, a few glasses of wine sitting in the sunshine was a pleasure. The farmer was pleasant helpful and friendly.

Disliked: However, the site itself wasn’t really as advertised there is no hard standing but a large grass field, which this summer is fine but a wet year may be difficult for larger vehicles, there is no “fruit farm” that we could see, it may well be but not visible from the site. As the pictures shows trees in blossom we were expecting fruit laden trees at this time of year but none to be seen. In fact the field is on the side of a small industrial road with vehicles coming and going. Basic facilities, blue farm bins for rubbish and an old oil tank for chemical waste which is difficult to empty, with a hose to rinse basic but barely adequate. We were told to empty grey water on the field which I see the reason this year but bits of food waste in grey water may cause issues in due course. The advertisement says motorhome and campervans and site does not accept tents or children however it’s clear the farmer accepts everyone that will pay, he did allow a tent and children which is annoying as we stayed at this basic site because it didn’t accept children. There was also a taxi with a couple sleeping in the back seat plus. Box van with a mattress in. Farmer returned to remind us no fires or coal bbq due to dry year and fire risk but clearly forgot to remind others, signs would be useful. Overall we had peaceful stay but wouldn’t return sadly.

Local attractions

Deep in 1066 country and the High Weald, this is a prime destination for history buffs. It’s less than 20 minutes’ drive from base to Battle Abbey and the 1066 battlefield, where guests can explore the visitor centre, clamber around the abbey ruins, stroll in the walled garden and learn all about medieval fighting. If that’s just whet appetites for more, take a step closer to the present day by exploring some of the many stately manors and pretty gardens hereabouts: it’s a five-minute drive (or less than 20 minutes’ walk) to the 14th-century Bodiam Castle, and Great Dixter House and Gardens, Bateman’s, Scotney Castle, Herstmonceux Castle and Camber Castle are all within half an hour. When hols require jaunts to the beach, guests will be spoiled for choice… It’s about 35 minutes to the coast and to watersports on sandy stretches like Camber Sands (windsurfing) and Cooden beach (jetskiing). It’s also around half an hour to Hastings where a sandy beach stretches along the seafront, and amusement parks, museums, caves and an aquarium will all vie for attention. For a break from salt-filled breezes, turn inland instead with a trip to Royal Tunbridge Wells for shopping, museums, gardens and lots more history, or wrap up hols on a cheery note with a trip to Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard (five minutes from base) for a drink or two.
