  • Dog-friendly lakeside lodges in the Northumberland countryside
  • A 25-minute drive to Berwick-upon-Tweed; 45 minutes to Seahouses
  • Fishing available on site; hot tubs
If it’s time to get away to the gorgeous Northumberland countryside, you’ve done well to stumble upon East Learmouth Lakeside Lodges. With a picturesque and private lakeside location on a 1200-acre estate and farm, the dog-friendly lodges have a proud spot by the water and they're only 25 minutes’ drive from Berwick-upon-Tweed. There’s fishing on the site and horse riding both locally and on the coast, which is around 18 miles away. Otherwise, head to the Cheviot Hills for bike rides and hilly or flat hikes. There’s a shorter woodland walk on site with a lodge for a drinks stop or clay pigeon shooting for the especially adventurous types. At your lodge, you’ll have an outdoor eating area and a smart TV to help you relax, or you might want to prop your feet up in the breakfast bar styled indoor dining area overlooking the lake on the west side of the site (what a spot for sunset). Each lodge is heated and comes with a bathroom with a shower and a kitchen with an oven, refrigerator and cupboard space. Handily enough, there’s also a private bar and function room on site with a full-sized snooker table and the site can arrange picnics, afternoon tea or private dining and drinks receptions. You won’t be short on foodie stops, that’s for sure. The local village, Cornhill-on-Tweed, is 35 minutes’ walk away and it has a village shop with everything from stamps and a post office service to hot food. The hotel, 35 minutes’ walk away, serves excellent food and drink too. Otherwise, cross the England-Scotland border into Coldstream (10 minutes’ drive or over an hour’s walk), where there are tea rooms, shops, pubs and a series of walks along the river Tweed.

Cedar lodge

Liked: stunning location convenient for loads of places to visit. Lodge compact and clean with all the necessary appliances and equipment. Hot tub was a bonus and outside seating plenty. Enjoyed watching the swans and ducks on the lake. Very quiet and we were blessed with good weather for time of year.

Disliked: just a minor niggle because of my age and knee complaint it was difficult for me to get up on the bed and could have done with a small step to enable but this was a personal reason and not a criticism of the lodge. Bathroom door kept sticking open and front door difficult to lock but again all minor niggles.

Cedar lodge

Liked: Absolutely everything! The owner was so friendly and helpful when we arrived. Made it feel like home. It’s so relaxed and tranquil there all the lodges are so far apart you really feel like you’re alone. We took two big dogs and didn’t feel it was a problem in the cosy Lodges. The kitchen has everything you need the bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is beautiful it’s lovely and warm and the hot tub is absolutely incredible the night sky when you are in it is beautiful and there is nobody around and no lights. It’s just a short drive to Berwick and there are pubs within five minute drive. We will definitely be coming back regularly we absolutely loved it haven’t found anywhere like this before and we frequently travel around the UK every year.

Disliked: Leaving!
