  • Small, peaceful site next to Aysgarth Falls in the Yorkshire Dales
  • Hawes, Bolton Castle and The Forbidden Corner within 15 minutes' drive
  • Large pitches with easy access from the A684; bar/restaurant next door
If you’re writing a list of the best spots to visit in the Yorkshire Dales, Aysgarth Falls is bound to be on it… And if you’re planning to visit Aysgarth Falls, well, where better to settle down for the night than a site within a few minutes’ walk? The falls are the main attraction here – they’re five minutes away on foot – but Aysgarth Falls Caravan and Camping Park has more to offer as well. For starters, there are lovely views out over Wensleydale from all of the peaceful pitches, and plenty of local footpaths to wander along nearby to seek out more scenery. It’s also handily placed just off the A684 for easy travels – oh, and it just happens to have a bar and restaurant next door serving up home-cooked local produce alongside some of Yorkshire’s finest ales… The pitches at this North Yorkshire site are fairly small in number but large in size, with access to essential amenities including a washing-up area, toilets and a heated shower block. Shops are 10 minutes’ drive away in Leyburn, and there’s a rather tasty prospect two miles away at the Wensleydale Ice Cream Parlour. Once you’ve spotted the falls and eaten the ice cream, what next? This location is within easy reach of several other attractions, including Bolton Castle, The Forbidden Corner and the Wensleydale Creamery as well as the many waterfalls, waterways and walks that the Dales are famed for.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Great area, lovely Hotel, friendly staff, we will be back, no doubt about it

Disliked: There were only 2 unisex toilets and 3 unisex showers, could do with more as there are quite a few pitch’s, however basic they looked (wooden huts) the main thing is they were spotlessly clean, would not stop us from returning, a great site

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Location is good, camped in the past in a tent, this time was in the campervan and the plus is "Adults only". Shower and toilet facilities need revamping, but the sad news is (from a member of staff) as of next year no tents, campervan's or caravans as glamping pods are taking over the site.

Disliked: Sadly, won't be back due to the above, really think they're missing out.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The area, waterfalls and views are second to none for walkers. The Pub serves excellent foods and ales with a warm welcome from the staff who we had the pleasure of meeting.

Disliked: Although the pitches are large hard standing the area needed to pitch on them is very limited, you cannot fail to put at least one wheel on the grassed area & that is where your troubles begin. I appreciate we arrived in adverse weather conditions but the grass area between pitches was just like marshland, you sank up to the top of your boots. If it wasn't for the camaraderie of fellow campers( As usual) 4 of us would have been permanent fixtures, may I add though 3 staff did get stuck in with one very stuck camper van👏👏. The showers and toilets were in small sheds with no hot water or lighting😱

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The exit The location

Disliked: Everything else Facilitates comprised 4 huts, 2 of which contained a toilet and sink, 2 of which a shower. Hot water and lighting were intermittent at best. Surrounding area was overgrown and strewn with rubbish, which wasn’t surprising as there wasn’t even a rubbish bin on this site. In fairness, the management did not disagree with our comments and did give us a partial refund.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch (small)

Liked: To be fair the proximity of the site to the falls area was the main reason for booking . Pitches were reasonably flat and fairly large . Pub on site

Disliked: The toilet and shower block was definitely a let down , wooden cubicles in a basic state . A sign pointing you in the direction of the falls from the site might be nice too .

Local attractions

With the falls being only five minutes away on foot, you’ll need to look a little further afield if you’re planning to hike in this area. A few local beauty spots to include on your trips might be Cauldron Falls (half an hour’s walk), Semerwater (15 minutes’ drive – and also a place to fish, swim or launch your kayaks/paddleboards) and Middleham Castle (15 minutes). Beyond all that, of course, is the entirety of the Yorkshire Dales – easy road access here means it’s straightforward to get out to popular places like Buttertubs Pass (25 minutes), Grassington (40 minutes) and Malham (an hour). The imposing Bolton Castle (10 minutes) and the ruins of Jervaulx Abbey (20 minutes) should be on your to-visit list too, as should the Wensleydale Creamery (15 minutes) for tasters of the area’s famous cheese. The weird and wonderful walkways of The Forbidden Corner (15 minutes) make a great day out too, especially if you’re looking for ways to get the kids outside.
