  • Peaceful, dog-friendly site within the North York Moors National Park
  • Five minutes’ drive from Whitby's seaside, abbey and museums
  • Barbecues permitted on site and cycle hire nearby
Pitch up in the North York Moors National Park at Long Meadow Farm and the pretty views will have you itching to get out for explores of both coast and countryside. There are plenty of walks in the surrounds for all abilities at this family- and dog-friendly site, five minutes’ drive from the sea at Whitby, with wildlife to keep an eye out for as you amble. If you prefer to trundle on wheels, cycle hire is available over the road from Long Meadow. After a day well spent navigating the local area, head back to the park for some refuelling – there’s a supermarket in Whitby for supplies and barbecues are permitted on site, so grab anything that can be grilled and get ready to tuck in. If your roams have you tired out and you’re not up to cooking, a couple of pubs serving meals are within walking distance, so you can stop in for a quick refreshment before hitting the hay. Please note that this site does not have toilet or shower facilities.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Grand little site. Lovely neat little pitches with gorgeous views of whitby Abbey and surrounding countryside. Text check in, so no face to face but questions answered promptly. Basic water, electric and disposal facilities as described. Fantastic bus service from over the road. Peace ful and well kept site. Little bit of road noise but by no means a deal breaker.

Disliked: Nothing

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Clean and tidy site, well managed with beautiful views of Whitby & the Abbey. Well located with easy access off the A171. Good walking / cycling routes close by with the Cinder Path to Robinhoods Bay, Whitby & Esk Valley via Ruswarp. Also easy to get onto the Cleveland Way coastal walk. Hare & Hounds about half a mile away serves good food & drink and is very popular with holiday makers and locals alike.

Disliked: The extremely wet weather recently had left the grass areas soft however the owners had arranged for hard standing for vehicle on pitches that were affected.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Very clean and tidy. Excellent communication prior to arrival to confirm pitch etc. Text to check in. Access to water point, waste water and rubbish facilities. Daffodils everywhere

Disliked: Pitches appeared very close together. Traffic noise from main road and neighbouring hotel/care home? Pitches aren't level Quite expensive given basic facilities offered- no toilets/showers and no dishwashing facilities.

Local attractions

If you don’t spot any animals scampering about the North York Moors while staying at this site, set off to the SEA LIFE Scarborough aquarium and eye up some underwater creatures instead. The town also has a castle to check out, along with a sandy beach (half an hour's drive). Stretches of coast closer by include Robin Hood's Bay (five minutes), which is also home to a fab old fishing village, and strolls along the seaside at Whitby’s harbour are also a satisfying way to while away your time. Head to this town – said to be the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s spooky novel Dracula – to have a gander at the atmospheric abbey as well. If you’re keen on seeing the scenery of the nearby national park but not on two feet, make tracks to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which leaves from Whitby and chugs along for 18 miles with views of Newtondale’s geological formations and Fen Bog’s nature reserve. Kids can’t keep still? Tire them out at Go Ape Dalby (35 minutes), a treetop adventure park with all sorts of activities available, or take them to Alpamare waterpark (25 minutes) to whoosh down the slides and float in the pools.
