  • Grass pitches at a secure, quiet site 10 minutes' drive from Howden
  • York and Hull within a 40-minute drive; 45 minutes to the coast
  • Rural views on site and easy access from M62
Green views all around and yet splendidly easy to get to from the motorway – that’s the deal at Peachey Place Campsite, in a peach of an East Yorkshire spot that’s handy for the M62 and about 10 minutes’ drive from the market town of Howden. And that’s not all that’s handy around here – this is a fine location for days of walking, cycling, fishing and horse riding, city days in York or Hull and outings to the likes of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Yorkshire Air Museum. For a bit of sea air, you can also set forth to Hornsea (45 minutes’ drive) or up to Bridlington beach (an hour). Mix up all the outings as you please – back at base you’ll be staying at a quiet site with secure fences and rural views at every turn. This is a friendly site that welcomes families and dogs. The grass pitches are pleasingly flat and provided with all the essential facilities including a washing-up area, showers and toilets (with accessible and parent-friendly facilities). Barbecues and campfires are permitted but please do check with the folk on site before lighting up.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: very friendly and welcoming owners. Large pitches on a very spacious , level and well-drained site Several toilets and showers available, kept clean and with lots of hot water for washing up etc. Close to M62 but minimal motorway noise Easy walk along the canal to the village with shops, post office, pubs and take-aways A good centre for visiting places of interest and near quiet country roads and t for cycling.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice large wild-camping/site and the facilities of toilets and showers/bins/pot wash etc. were well set out, clean and tidy. Due to there only being a handfull of travellers/campers, there were plenty of spots to pitch in a large wild field. Had a nice 15min walk into Newport (1 mile) and the chippy is great (cash only) and also the Crown & Anchor pub was reasonable a (£3.80 a pint)

Disliked: Only that the M62 is close by at a few hundred meters and already irritatingly noisy in the background on Sunday morning from 5.30am, which unfortunately kind of detracts from the quiet, country setting.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Mick thank you for your review. The noise from M62 does really depend on the wind direction and unfortunately although it doesn't happen very often, the wind was not really on your side when you were here. Despite of that, we are glad that you were still able to enjoy your time here and had a nice walk around the countryside and enjoyed our amenities. The local food and drinks here are amazing!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Everything. Beautiful spot in open countryside. Lovely clean facilities. Lovely people who own it. Great flat pitches. Such a lovely stay will definitely be returning ☺️ and a bonus we recieved a text message saying we could have a late check out 3pm.

From the manager: Hi Wiliam, thank you very much for your positive feedback. We are happy to hear that you had a wonderful time during your stay. Yes, when we are not busy, we are happy to give our campers an extended check out time so you can have a longer time getting things ready for your departure which means hopefully a more relaxing morning :). We look forward to welcoming you back again.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: We are regular campers and have never refused to stay at a campsite until now. Upon arrival we were met with a run down and desolate looking campsite. What looked like strapping being used for fencing was coming away and flapping in the wind. The whole place looked unwelcoming and we decided not to stay. We immediately called and explained that the campsite was not suitable and we were told we could have a partial refund and to contact Rosa. We text her and she gave us partial credit for a future stay at the campsite we do not want to stay at!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: You had an access to more than 50 photos of our campsite (submitted by our genuine satisfied campers) before you finalised your booking. Your submitted photos for your review were photo no.70 and 71. The surroundings and the fencing shown on your photos were also shown on the photos that were previously submitted before you made your booking (see photo no. 6,10, 33, 45, 46, 65). Once again, you had an access to these photos BEFORE you made your booking. There is no big discrepancies regarding our site and fencing between your two photos and those other photos that were available for you to view beforehand. Our Refund Policy and Terms&Conditions were shown to you at least 3 times before you finalised your booking. Our Refund Policy states that there's no refund within 1 week of arrival. However, we are reasonable people and we do, from time to time, grant our campers a refund eventhough the 1 week window has surpassed, when we feel it's appropriate. You claimed that our site was not as advertised. However, as we've explained above, there were more than 50 photos available for you to view before you made your booking where some of them showing similar picture with the ones you submitted. In our humble opinion, our site is as advertised. We assure you that misleading our potential campers has never been (and never will) in our agenda. Therefore, based on the reason of your claim for a refund, we didn't feel that a refund was the way forward in your case. Unfortunately for you, the weather was attrociously wet and was not ideal for camping when you arrived. However we do not have any control over the weather. Believe us, we wish we did. We wish you all the best.

Local attractions

When you’ve only got time or energy for a short drive, that’s not an issue here, as that’ll get you to the 14th-century ruins of a chapter house and Howden Minster (10 minutes’ drive), the adventure playground at William’s Den (10 minutes) or ready and set for some birdwatching at the North Cave Wetlands nature reserve (10 minutes). Further out, there’s quite a mixed bag too, whether it’s skipping between The Deep aquarium, the transport museum and the Old Town in Hull (35 minutes), catching the park and ride into York (40 minutes) for its minster and railway museum, peeking at the animals in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (45 minutes) or picking up some air history in the Yorkshire Air Museum (40 minutes). When you’re craving a little of the beach, that's okay too… there’s jetskiing, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing at Hornsea beach (45 minutes) and at Bridlington beach (an hour) you can head out for long walks on the shore, settle in for fishing days or just meander around the Old Town and its eateries.
