  • Meadow site overlooking a fen on an East Anglia farm
  • A 15-minute drive from Banham Zoo and Bressingham Steam & Gardens
  • Off-ground firepits allowed; small World War II museum on site
From Hillside Farm Camping, you’ll be able to gather steam into Norfolk’s historic market towns, broads and countryside with an East Anglian farm as your base. This meadow site looks over a sloping fen, arable fields and a church, with the farmhouse close by. It’s certainly a good vantage point to be in, not just for the scenery, but also for the market town of Diss, Banham Zoo and Bressingham Steam & Gardens 15 minutes’ drive away. Uniquely, this site will take you on a little tour of history if you wish, as those of you with an interest in aviation can request a viewing in the small museum on site, created in memory of the men of the 388th Bomb Group who flew B-17's from Knettishall airfield during World War II. In a converted horse box, there are toilet and shower facilities available for guests to use. Water’s available from the tap by the house too, so that you can fill up your own cooking equipment or wash your hands ready for a barbecue (you’ll need to bring your own gas barbecue or off-ground firepit). Well-behaved dogs have the green light here, as long as they’re kept on a lead and cleaned up after, so you should feel quite at home with all the family around. Handily, there’s a dog-friendly pub just 20 minutes’ walk away and a fish and chip shop 10 minutes the other way if that’s your cup of tea.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great hosts, atmospheric with the connection to the past. Close to pub, shop and chippy.

Disliked: No dislikes really but please don't move the site, just have a re-shuffle as I understand you don't always want campers on your lawn. You could make more of the Nissen huts and surrounds surely? The ghosts of the past are crucial to the sites charm.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Very accommodating host who went above and beyond in order to make my stay comfortable. The communal area is a real asset on what was a miserably wet stay. This was a nice place to relax out of the rain and also very handy in packing up in the dry. Shower is nice and hot and a basic but practical shower/toilet/sink set up.

Disliked: The road was a little noisy but nothing the hosts have any influence over

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely undercover space with seating, lighting and outlets - good when you only have a small tent - also had wifi which is much appreciated! Short walk into the nearby village for supplies/food.

Disliked: Campsite is near to a main road, which was loud even overnight. The shower and toilet are together, so I imagine would be a problem even if more than a few people were staying at the site - it also didn't smell very clean, probably as it is hard to air out an old horsebox.

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Hillside Farm Camping. We're sorry that the road noise was a problem for you, it's usually much quieter at night. There are two toilet and shower cubicles and we have them both open when there are a lot of guests staying and we've never had a problem with capacity. The toilet/shower is cleaned daily and topped up with liquid when necessary and smell is not usually a problem - if we know about it, we can deal with it immediately.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Deborah was a very friendly host and kindly gave me recommendations for walking. The walks (I did two over two days) were beautiful and I could walk right from the campsite. The pitch was great with pretty scenery and a picnic bench I could use. The toiler-shower block were good, everything worked well. Awesome stay!

Disliked: Nothing!
