  • Well-equipped glamping tents on a quiet Norfolk meadow in Freethorpe
  • Pettitts Animal Adventure Park five minutes’ drive; beach 20 minutes
  • Field kitchen and covered communal seating; walking distance to a shop
The views at Bumble Bee Meadow Glamping are always changing, but always fabulous… these tents in the village of Freethorpe look out over Norfolk farmland that's planted with an ever-changing roster of crops, with a backdrop of vast East Anglian landscapes and wide-open skies that are at their very best when they pop with the colours of sunset. Handy facilities in the two-acre glamping meadow include a bathroom block with shared showers and a dedicated toilet for each tent. You can chill out on comfy sofas in the communal tent, and cook on a gas hob in the shared camping kitchen, where there’s also a fridge and freezer for storing your bits and bobs. Beds in all the bell tents (various permutations are available for families, friends or couples) are made before your arrival with quality bed linen, pillows and duvets, and towels are provided too. There’s a private firepit and barbecue area for each tent, and a space for parking cars at the entrance to the meadow – vehicles are not allowed beyond this area so the site is safe for kids to play and kick a ball around. Speaking of kids, this is a smashing base for families, with all sorts of seaside and theme-park fun to be had within half an hour’s drive. Source food essentials in the small general store on the green in Freethorpe (15 minutes’ walk), or if you’ve sworn off cooking for the holiday, take your pick of the local pubs – some with waterfront views – in the surrounding villages.

Bell tent (six person)

Liked: Fantastic place to stay. Fabulous relaxing location with views over the fields. The Bell tents are super with very comfy beds, stylish warm bedding and towels. Table and chairs. Lovely finishing touches. (like a hotel room under the stars really). They are lovely. We had an allocated loo and loo roll, lots of basins, mirrors, hot showers and hairdryer which was really nice to have. There’s a great communal kitchen well equipped with kettle, stove, pans, utensils, cutlery, funky mugs, coffee, tea, milk, fridge, freezer, bbq, pizza oven etc. All very clean. Rebecca and Nick, the hosts/owners were ultra welcoming and friendly. Made sure we had everything we needed, lots of info about what to do in the area, activities, places to eat etc. There are lots of things to do and see. Great dinner overlooking the river at the Lord Nelson in Reedham and two amazing breakfasts, garden centre Moulton st Mary’s and Cannell’s in Reedham. We had a really fabulous stay. Thank you very much.

Bell tent (six person)

Liked: We are a family of 4 (kids aged 14 & 10) and this beautiful place was ideal for us. The location is great as it's within easy reach of lots of things to do, whilst being very peaceful. The owners made us feel so welcome - they went out of their way to help us find places to eat and watch the Lionesses! The beds are very comfy, and the tents are beautifully clean and laid out. Would highly recommend! I asked my daughter to write her own review: Absolutely loved it! The site was beautiful (and VERY clean), and the owners made a habit of visiting us every day just to say hello! It's a spectacular area, and I have already decided we are going back! This is perfect for families, and I enjoyed it so much! (Jemma, 10)

Disliked: Nothing

Bell tent (four person)

Liked: Amazing Glamping Experience! We had the most amazing, relaxing family break and can’t thank Rebecca and Nick enough for everything they did to make our stay so perfect. It was everything we hoped for and more. The facilities were fantastic, everything had been thought of. The bell tent was spacious, clean, tastefully decorated and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The outdoor showers were wonderful and we loved having our own private toilet. The kitchen area was great, everything we needed was provided. We also enjoyed using the pizza oven! Our daughter had great fun in the chill tent, playing games and on the football pitch. Rebecca and Nick are really knowledgeable about the local area and gave us great advise on the best places to visit, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend for a peaceful, relaxing break. We look forward to visiting again.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike!

Local attractions

This corner of Norfolk serves up lots of kid-friendly days out. First stop might be Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (five minutes’ drive) for turns on the carousels as well as snake encounters. Hot on the heels of that comes Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park (half an hour), where you can watch seal shows and scare yourself on thrill rides. If you’re looking for a day of running around in forests, BeWILDerwood Norfolk adventure park (25 minutes) more than fits the bill. Keen for some messing about on the water? Take a guided cruise on the waterways of Hickling Broad (half an hour) on a traditional Norfolk wooden boat, or take the dinky chain ferry across the River Yare at Reedham (five minutes) and have a stroll along its pretty waterfront. Kids hinting at the beach? There’s a long sandy stretch just ready for sandcastle building at Great Yarmouth (20 minutes), as well as fairground rides at the Pleasure Beach, strolls down Britannia Pier and traditional fish and chip shops.
