  • Small-scale campsite on a Cambridgeshire working farm
  • On the edge of the village of Gamlingay; Cambridge 25 minutes' drive
  • On-site farm shop selling fresh bacon, sausages and eggs
It's peaceful and surrounded by quiet countryside, but you'll never feel solitary at Solitaire Farm. That's because this friendly rural site, set in an attractive location on the edge of the Cambridgeshire village of Gamlingay, is also home to so many animals. This is a place where, as the owners put it, you can experience ‘all the sounds and smells of a busy family farm, complete with an all-natural cockerel alarm clock'. Livestock is all around at this small-scale spot, with pigs, cows, sheep and chickens frequently making an appearance. Fresh free-range produce like eggs, bacon and sausages is available to buy at the on-site farm shop, so pick a plot here if you like the sound of a fry-up that has travelled just a few metres from the farm to your fork. Site guests pitch up here in a spacious and level field with far-reaching rural views, a short walk from a modern amenities block that hosts the farm's toilets and showers. Pets are welcome at Solitaire Farm, but please do keep your furry friends on leads as they're not the only animals about. Solitaire Farm is about a mile from Gamlingay village centre, where there are two play areas, several nature reserves and a good number of well-liked local pubs and restaurants.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The peace and quiet.

Disliked: The facilities were poor and not the cleanest. We arrived at 2000 and despite booking, they weren’t expecting us. The lady went to ‘clean’ the facilities as we went to recce them - what we saw in the morning beggered belief. The mop and bucket were filthy, and so was the floor in the toilet/shower/sink/tourist info room. The whole area was very run down - not much evidence of farm animals, apart from the hens, whose enclosure was depressing. I suspect the owners are selling up and have given up on the place.
