  • Dog-friendly wild camping meadows on a working livery farm
  • A 25-minute drive from Llangollen and 40 minutes from Chester
  • Walks, shops, restaurants and pubs in Ellesmere, five minutes’ drive
Wild camping is the specialty at Pentreheylin Park, a pop-up site on a working livery farm with over 30 acres of gorgeous Shropshire countryside. Views of the Welsh mountains? Tick. Excellently placed, with plenty to do? Double tick… Ellsemere’s pretty walks, meres, shops, pubs and restaurants are just five minutes’ drive away from Pentreheylin Park. What’s more, the site is midway between the historic city of Chester (40 minutes’ drive) and the lively town of Shrewsbury (35 minutes), and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Llangollen is just 25 minutes’ drive away too. The most attractive part of this site might be that it’s away from roads, traffic and people. Wildlife loves this spot, and that includes fox and badger sets, hares, rabbits and birds. You might also get a glimpse of peacocks, pigs, sheep and Magic, the site’s miniature horse. Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome. There’s plenty of space for them all, and portable toilet and washing-up facilities shared between the site. Very handily for those who’d like to grill up a good spread, firepits and barbecues are permitted too. Simply follow the signs and park and pitch up wherever you fancy. This is an easy-going, relaxed site with a good vibe and plenty of space. The only rules are that you mustn’t feed the horses under any circumstances (it’s very dangerous for them) and dogs must be kept on leads at all times, and cleared up after.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Such a beautiful, peaceful location to camp. We really enjoyed our stay. Children loved it and loved all the horses in the surrounding fields. Perfect site for as close to wild camping as possible. Useful location of clean outside sink and basic portaloo and the staff were very friendly. Ideally located shops just a short drive away and the beautiful Ellesmere Mere just a 15min drive away plus not far from the gorgeous Llangollen. A lovely quiet site to get away. Will be going back again as soon as we can. Thank you for a lovely time.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Great little back to basics site with wonderful views. The site was quiet and peaceful. Owners were friendly and laid back. Fire pits allowed. Close to Ellesmere town.

Disliked: The site is not sign posted from road or on the gate of the property so a little difficult to find. Two chemical toilets are the only the facilities available. These got dirty and smelly very quickly. We used our own porta potti as we were only staying for one night. This is the only thing they would stop us going back there. A compost toilet may be a better alternative if there’s no plans for permanent toilet or shower facilities.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: nice field with horses surrounding, good location with supermarket and good pubs nearby.

Disliked: Toilet facilities were poor, we decided not to use them at all. One proper portaloo which was full with no flush, and a secondary was a caravan toilet which was full after a day (this was emptied but full again very quickly). Would only return if there were better toilet facilities.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Site was lovely. Beautiful Horses in the fields, great for the children. Lots of space. Helpful owners.

Disliked: More toilets required for size of site and shower block addition. Electric Fences need to either be sign posted or moved to within horse perimeter.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Nice place to unwind. Horse owners not to sure about campers yet, time will sort that out.

Disliked: Need to sort your signage out guys, we could not find you plus electric gates need repairing. Once you get a proper toilet block and showers built you will have a great site. Lack of electric hook ups will deter campers and tourers. I'm not meaning to be negative, just advising you what is expected these days. Good luck on your venture.
