  • Quiet purpose-built camping pods in the Shropshire Hills
  • Hike for around an hour to reach Carding Mill Valley
  • Firepit and gas cooker provided; three pubs and lots of trails nearby
It’s pretty darn peaceful at Minton Hill Pods in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Just step outside, ready your hiking boots or bicycle and choose from the many sleepy country lanes surrounding this purpose-built camping pod site. From this spot four miles south of Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd, some tracks will take you all the way to the heather-carpeted plateau. There’s wild swimming there too – a welcome way to cool off after the hour-long walk. Cyclists are a few hundred yards from the Minton Bach mountain bike trail, a well-regarded single-track ride. The Minton Hill Pods are in a remote, small and highly peaceful woodland on a family-run hill farm, down a short, solid stone track and half a mile south of Anglo-Saxon settlement of Minton. Solar panels power the lights and charging points in the pods, which are fully insulated and have room for two adults. Simply stack the beds (bedding is provided) to maximise your space if you’re travelling alone – it’ll be like a single bed or a sofa. Stacking the beds this way also creates more room for chilling out with your book or your travel buddy – although you may well be outside taking advantage of the open firepit and gas cooking facilities that have been provided (sunset meals and stargazing, anyone?) These off-grid pods have plenty of features, including drinking water on tap and access to well-maintained washing-up facilities, flushing toilets and hot showers. There’s firewood available for an additional cost, but please bring any fire lighting equipment, a powerful torch, cutlery, cooking utensils, pans and towels with you. When you’re in search of other sustenance, tasty food and a warm atmosphere can be tracked down at the pub in Marshbrook (15 minutes’ walk) or the two pubs in Little Stretton (half an hour). The market town of Church Stretton (five minutes’ drive) has cafés, a supermarket and more dining out options.

Camping pod

Liked: Very peaceful stay, self check in on arrival.it was our first time staying in a pod and we found it very peaceful and relaxing! Such a beautiful view in every direction you turned. We ended up taking a stroll admiring everything around us so many cows and sheep it was amazing we even ended up finding a pub not far away so we stopped off it was lovely staff atmosphere couldn’t ask for more. The pod was kept well cleaned and the toilet/shower was very maintained . Would definitely come again and recommending this to family and friends 😊

Camping pod

Liked: This was such an amazing find. The location has stunning views and very peaceful. The pods are very comfortable with lots of thoughtful details, like a welcome beer, camping chair as well as a picnic bench per pod, a wind breaker if you wanted to put it up, USB ports for charging and guidebooks of the area and more. The owner popped in to say hello who was very friendly and helpful. Perfect for star gazing, as there is no light pollution. Just wish we could have stayed longer.

Camping pod

Liked: What an amazing find! A beautiful spot to escape the city for the night. There are only two pods on the location so it’s certainly peaceful, not like other packed glamping locations. The pod was spotless with all the facilities you need for an effortless camping experience. We had two beers in our room too that was certainly a nice touch after a long hike. We’ll definitely coming back to stay here again. Thank you so much Tom and Alison (and Brian).

Camping pod

Liked: Fantastic location. The pod sits in the middle of woods, with a view overlooking the hills. Lots of green, nice fresh air. Bed was nice and clean, very cozy and quite warm. In the night you could see the most amazing clear sky with stars, which was the highlight of the stay. Personally I haven’t seen so many stars for a long time. L, last time I saw similar night sky and stars was in Sahara desert. We stayed two nights and absolutely loved it. Recommend 100%

Camping pod

Liked: Beautiful tranquil spot, everything you need for a few days away. Owners came to check we were ok, . BBQ, fire pit, USB ports to charge phones ! Clean toilets and shower, ! Sheep came to camp to say hello, just so relaxing in the evening! Plenty walks and things to do and see a short drive away. Nice touch was arriving to find a cold bottle of beer waiting for us ! Loved it will definitely be going again , huge thanks for a wonderful stay !

Disliked: Can't fault it ! But just be aware it's down a very rocky lane , not good for low cars, we left our car at the top after first day no issues or complaints 😀

Local attractions

From this central Shropshire spot, it’s not tricky to track down attractions from Minton Hill Pods. Take in the countryside from a steam railway, like in the old days, by joining the Severn Valley Railway from its Bridgnorth station (40 minutes’ drive). Then, march on towards Stokesay Castle (25 minutes), where one of the richest men in England lived in the 13th century. Museums can be tracked down in Ironbridge (40 minutes), medieval Powis Castle (50 minutes) or the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre (10 minutes). As for peaceful sightseeing and pottering around, Ludlow (25 minutes) and Shrewsbury (35 minutes) are excellent contenders for such activities. When you’re not out biking or hiking the Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd, there’s also a popular single-track cycling trail through Minton Batch (around 15 minutes’ cycle).
