  • Spacious and quiet site in the Lincolnshire Wolds, with fishing pond
  • Within 40 minutes' drive of medieval Lincoln and Mablethorpe beach
  • Pub with food five minutes' drive away; 15 minutes from Market Rasen
Tucked into the Lincolnshire countryside, Little Owls Caravan and Camping is a memorable outdoor experience 15 minutes' drive from Market Rasen. Set over 12 acres of level, well-drained paddocks, this peaceful spot has an array of facilities, including a washing-up area, a chemical disposal point and a water and waste point, along with a luxury shower and toilet block (new for the 2024 season) and a laundry facility. Everyone can stretch out, enjoy the peace and the views, and listen out for the plentiful population of local owls. Tucked away among all this there's also a fishing pond, which guests can use for an extra charge. Families and dogs are welcome on the site; younger visitors will also have a hoot down the road at Hall Farm Park (five minutes), taking tractor rides to feed the cows and goats, bouncing in the soft play area and sliding down the artificial snow slopes. Further outdoor antics are on offer at Wild Pines Park (20 minutes), such as zipwires and high-up rope walks, along with archery and adventure playgrounds down at ground level. A pub with food is a five-minute drive away in South Kelsey, and further options for eating, drinking and stocking up are in Market Rasen.

Liked: The pitch

Disliked: This site is not as advertised there is no showers no toilet block there is no way to access the pond to fish unless you want to wade through a field of mud the postcode sends you to the wrong place and you have to try turn round on a single track

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your comments, however, it clearly states on the listing that we have no showers and only portaloo style temporary toilets available on site, this is because we are currently in the process of building a brand new toilet/shower block. The postcode does bring you to the correct location as many guests have proved. I'm sorry that you ended up having to turn round on a single track road, however, it clearly shows our detailed location on Google maps

Liked: Lady owner seemed kind when we arrived

Disliked: Very disappointed as campsite bore little resemblance to the photos. The edge of the whole site had been dug up to lay new water and electric pipes and left making it very muddy and untidy. This has been left since November apparently and we should have been contacted beforehand to let us know in case we wanted to change our booking which we would have done. The grass was very long having not been cut for at least a couple of months and hence never dried out even when it had stopped raining. We ended up leaving 2 days early, and the owner did call us in our way home to ask if everything was all right when we did explain the above to him. No signage for the site apart from on the gate, the postcode takes you much further up the lane and we had to ask someone for directions.

Liked: We had a lovely 2 night break here, we specifically chose this site as it is in the middle of nowhere and it is quiet....sooo quiet - we have a dog that is petrified of fireworks so this site was perfect for the bonfire weekend. The owner (Mairead I think her name is?) was very warm and welcoming on our arrival, which was dark when we got there but she explained everything very well. We have a motorhome which is over 8.5m in length, but the pitches were of ample size and we fitted perfectly. Added bonus of being on a fully serviced pitch, but they also had a motorhome/camper service point as well if needed. The facilities are basic, but they were clean. We had to chose our route into the site carefully, as most of the access roads are single track with no passing places - expect one route which we took and was fine. No issues at all with the site. We will definitely be back next November!

Disliked: Nothing to dislike - we wanted peace and quiet and that is what we got.

Fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked: Stayed on 2 electric grass pitches in 2 VW Campers, asked to be sited together and we was with loads of room. Lovely quiet well kept site, very friendly and relaxed. Basic but clean well stocked toilets, Can't comment on the showers as didn't use them. There's a large adjacent field leading into a small wooded area which was great to let the dogs off for a good run around, also a lovely little fishing pond that is well fenced off making it very safe for children to play. The availability to use our fire pit was very welcome at this time of the year. All in all a very nice relaxed wkend break.

Disliked: Nothing

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Stunning area. Out of the way. Peaceful. Lots of owls can be heard On site Pond great fishing

Disliked: Facilities. Shower block is in an old shipping container In need of refurbishment. Just Two portaloos in the tent pitches area. We arrived Friday the site wasn't full but one loo ran out of water on Saturday afternoon. The other had no hand soap. We can cope with basic Facilities but in the current circumstances handwashing is a must have. Dearest we have ever paid for a pitch without Electric and water

Local attractions

The Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is big on views and full of bumper opportunities for walking and cycling. Market Rasen is at the top of the 69-mile Lindsey Trail, a combo of paths, bike tracks and bridleways through Domesday-book villages and even older woodlands, past Tennyson's birthplace and Neolithic long barrows down to nature-filled wetlands. Market Rasen, whose weekly markets have been a crowd puller since medieval times, is also a handy point to join bigger bike routes like the Viking Way from Humber Bay to Oakham and the coastal Hull to Harwich path. If you prefer watching others do the running, the racecourse has fixtures all year. For the beach, beetle over to Cleethorpes (40 minutes) for all the sand and candy-floss-fuelled stuff seaside trips are made of. Quieter Mablethorpe is an hour away, with a population of seals in the nearby sanctuary and slides as well as cyclone spinning wheels at the indoor Aquapark. For historic days out, loaf over to Lincoln (half an hour) to see the 11th-century castle, 12th-century cathedral and its town centre of steep winding alleys. The International Bomber Command Centre (40 minutes) records and remembers the part Lincolnshire played in World War II, and at a similar distance, Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre explains a still-living but much changed local way of life. It’s a fine place for fish and chips too.
