  • Quiet rural location in north Herefordshire near the Welsh border
  • A 10-minute drive to Presteigne; 25 minutes to Ludlow or Craven Arms
  • Space for only two family groups; private bathroom for each party
Keeping it small, rural and relaxed, Willey Lane Farm is an excellent pick for family groups looking for a break just south of the Shropshire Hills. Set on 92 acres of rolling farmland in north Herefordshire, this site only hosts two family groups of up to six at any one time – so staying here is a very restful experience indeed. The camping area is set apart from the rest of the farm in a peaceful two-acre field that contains a young orchard of mixed fruit trees and 1,000 lavender plants. Sweet-smelling stays at this site also come with access to a private toilet, shower and washbasin, as well as individual washing-up areas with hot and cold water for both groups. The views over the surroundings are, if anything, even more special than the facilities, as the hamlet of Lower Willey sits at about 650 feet above sea level, with far-reaching vistas across and down the valley. At night, these stellar views keep on giving thanks to the site's location in a designated dark sky area, while early risers may catch sight of the deer that can sometimes be spotted grazing in the field at daybreak. Guests at Willey Lane Farm are free to ramble around the farmland and ancient woodland or head down into Presteigne (10 minutes' drive), the nearest town, for pubs, shops, restaurants and other local amenities.

Lavender yurt (two person)

Liked: Stayed in one of the new yurts. Excellently equipped, with comfy warm bed - essential for the bank holiday August weather! Hosts very welcoming and friendly. Enjoyed the almost silent nights - just owls to disturb us. Remote and quiet farm, but easily accessible (short drive up single track country lane) from main roads from Presteigne and Kingston. Yurt positioned for the stunning views down the valley. Small site, only one other yurt. Also open for tents.

Violet yurt (four person)

Liked: We stayed for 2 nights over the August bank holiday and had a really nice time with our nearly two year old daughter. The yurt is extremely well equipped, we only had to bring food! The bed was comfortable and a real treat compared to the usual camping airbed. Everything was perfectly clean. It does get a bit chilly at night as it’s such a big space so bring warm PJs… but there’s even a hot water bottle in there which was a nice touch. Really friendly hosts who provided lots of tips about local area and the location is absolutely beautiful. Very limited numbers which was great and the view from the Yurt was amazing, there's also a BBQ, chairs and table and chairs outside to use. If you go earlier in the summer as well, the lavender will be in bloom. We'd like to come back to see that :) The toilet and showers are the best I’ve experienced when camping/ glamping. Would 100% recommend this site.

Clover non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Loved everything about the place. It’s remote and so peaceful with the most beautiful views. The facilities are the best I’ve experienced whilst camping. Brilliant hosts. Really friendly but not intrusive. We got to see the lavender still in action which was fascinating. We will be back.

Clover non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: A quiet and luxurious Micro Campsite in a beautiful, friendly and interesting part of Britain. We were looking for peace and unexpectedly found paradise. The campsite - only two guest groups can stay at any one time, either in one of the two high quality Yurts being installed in Spring 2023 or, when they are not booked, by pitching a tent in the orchard. As the only booking, we had the place to ourselves. Fantastic facilities: - Your own private shower/loo room and washing-up/food prep room with a key. - Several fields and a large tract of private woodland to wander in. - Cooked breakfast on request. - Enjoy far reaching views down the valley, facing the sunrise and listen to the wonderful dawn chorus that floods the valley. Who would love it here? Anyone looking for peace and solitude in a natural environment. A family where children can safely explore the fields and woods. A couple looking for a quiet getaway. Anyone who practices Yoga or Meditation Lovers of nature and beautiful landscapes - both on the campsite and in the surrounding area such as the nearby Shropshire Hills. Lovers of ancient history - plenty of iron age forts, castles, villages to explore, plus Offa's Dyke. The owners clearly value high quality, which was reflected in their campsite and were kind, helpful, and keen for us to enjoy our stay. They recommended we visit and have lunch at a local Water Gardens and the nearby small and pretty "black and white" village of Weobly - which we loved. Highly recommend this part of Britain to explore and this campsite as a base. We will definately return.

Clover non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely peaceful campsite with own shower room/toilet and washing up room which were very clean and you have your own key so its just for your use. Plenty of space in the orchard area to pitch your tent and the site only has 2 pitches so you can be well away from other people. Slight slope but its a hilly area and you do get a bit of a view down the valley. Very much enjoyed using the barbeque and firewood was provided. Owners very helpful. Nice walks around fields and woodland. Wifi available near to the house and able to sit the summerhouse. Use of freezer. Plug socket in washing up room so you can charge up phones or tablets.

Clover non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Most amazing views we've ever had camping and looking forward to coming back next year. The hosts made us feel very welcome. Beautiful location, easy to find. Large pitches. Closest village was wonderfully quirky and quaint. Separate bathroom/kitchen facilities (which were spotless) to the other pitch was a big draw for us.

Local attractions

Pootle about the shops in Presteigne (10 minutes' drive) for souvenirs or antiques or visit the historic Judge's Lodgings museum. Alternatively, come to experience the town's special events, like the vibrant music festival held here in the last week of every August. If you like the feel of the place, it's easy to get out to another similarly well-preserved border town at Hay-on-Wye (40 minutes), home to the annual literary festival. For walks and outdoor activities, the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is within easy reach. Get your bearings at the discovery centre in Craven Arms (25 minutes) before stretching your legs along the Long Mynd plateau (30 minutes) or taking circular cycle rides in the countryside around gorgeous Church Stretton (35 minutes). The surrounding area has more attractions in abundance, from The Spaceguard Centre (10 minutes), a working observatory, to National Trust properties like Berrington Hall (30 minutes) or Croft Castle (25 minutes). As this is in a historic border region, there are lots more castles around too, including the particularly well-preserved example at Ludlow (25 minutes).
