  • Scenic caravan site set in 50 acres’ worth of lakes and woodland
  • On the edge of the Peak District, a 20-minute drive from Bakewell
  • Dog-friendly and adults-only spot with seven fishing lakes and a café
Flock to 50 acres of wildlife-rich woodland and lakes for an escapade to the eastern edge of the Peak District National Park at Barlow Country Club. Whether you want to unwind or explore, this Derbyshire destination has you covered – being an adults-only site, it’s a few notches more peaceful than your average park and has tons of space for chilling out or having a wander amid nature. There’s also a café serving food all day for relaxed meals on base, plus a couple of pubs – and a coffee shop and a gift store – are a 15-minute walk away in the centre of Barlow. Bites can be grabbed in between carp fishing and coarse fishing at the seven lush lakes on site (and lessons are available if you’re new to the sport). For trout fishing, there is a spot 25 minutes' drive away. Those keen on kicking it around top Peak District tourist spots while here might like to take the 20-minute drive to stately homes like Chatsworth House and famed villages such as Bakewell. The park is also 25 minutes from Ladybower reservoir for roams around spectacular spots like the Upper Derwent valley. Walks are, of course, cracking on site as well with 50 acres to adventure around. Guests can also drag the dog along on dawdles as Barlow Country Club is a pet-friendly place.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: We stayed on pitch 4 which was a good size and surrounded by conifers, making it very secluded. Very quiet. Water and electric at the pitch. Fantastic restaurant 5 minutes walk away - The Tickled Trout. Great location for visiting the north Peak District and also close to Chesterfield and Sheffield.

Disliked: No facilities (as advertised) which makes the fee per pitch seem expensive. Some of the pitches weren’t as nice as others. More information about the site would have been appreciated, including a more detailed map. Fishing lakes were disappointing, blue-green algae in two, and lots of mud everywhere. Seemed a little run down. Very poor phone and tv signal.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely spacious pitches, which are fairly private Great location. Lovely area to explore with plenty of walks from the site. Fabulous pub (The Peacock), which is just a 20 min walk away, next to a deli and cafe. Able to pick your own pitch Comprehensive text of instructions prior to arrival Open green space in front of pitches Will definitely visit again

Disliked: The grass alongside the pitch, was quite long and as we were on a shady pitch, (pitch 9), it didn’t dry out and was very boggy.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The privacy and seclusion of the pitch was a real breath of fresh air and the quality of the pitch was very good. Grass was very wet, but you cannot blame the campsite for all the rain 😊 Our car actually got stuck in the grass due to the very wet weather, but the site staff were very helpful and understanding and promptly towed out the car - Thank you!!!

Disliked: The site was very tired and looked to be in need of some general maintenance and the lack of any type of facilities is a little disappointing although this was indicated during the booking process.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Well laid out pitches generally with privacy provided by the surrounding tall hedges. Serviced pitches. Nice scenery, two very nice pubs within a few minutes walk. Nice walks around the ponds and in the vicinity with fishing for those inclined. Friendly, cosy, dog friendly cabin down at the end of the ponds for drinks snacks breakfast etc. Nice site for those who don't mind using their caravan facilities as there are non on site as specifically stated. No point complaining after the event, find a site that does. It appeared there was a defunct block on the site so facilities have been available in the past.

Disliked: Slightly tight entrance to the pitches with tight maneuvering from the access road without over running on to the grassed areas which at the time of writing were very wet and muddy. Motor movers essential if not skilled at maneuvering. The hard standing on some pitches were narrow which meant awnings would have to be sited on water logged grass at certain wet times of the year. Did not understand why the main entrance gate was locked at 4:00pm when access to the site was while 9:00pm. The alternative access through the cottages entrance and carpark is quite tight for caravans particularly in the dark months. This was quite apparent when on the day of our departure in broad daylight a twin axle brand spanking new coachman came in that entrance by mistake due to wrong sat nav info and badly scraped the rear trim! The site information provided is copious and you need to read it carefully its not easy to turn back if you miss the first entrance. A little bit of tlc required to the waste disposal area and clear instructions as to what goes where. A few pavers to form a footpath would also be a good idea.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Loved the big secluded pitches ,serviced as well ,lovely location,I've got a couple of minor issues which are listed in the dislike

Disliked: Just a couple of minor issues, Hard standings could do to be a little wider for awnings on some pitches due to grass been sodden. The bin compound could do with a little make over ,loads of bins but no real organisation of what goes in what, plus access to bin compound could do with a makeover.

Checking out Chatsworth House (20 minutes’ drive) is a must while you’re here – this stately home is set in vast parkland edged by woodland, craggy hills and heather moors, so it’s an excellent choice for explores on foot. Inside the posh pad is a sizeable collection of art, ranging from Old Masters' drawings to neoclassical sculptures. Bakewell – yes, home of the tasty tarts – is also a sweet spot for a stroll thanks to having old cottages, tiny alleys and tucked-away courtyards to totter around, as well as a river to roam beside (20 minutes). If you’re an eager trekker seeking more of a challenge, mosey along the Monsal Trail starting from Coombs Viaduct, a mile south east of Bakewell, and leading 8.5 miles to Topley Pike junction in Wye Dale, passing by Peak District hotspots like Headstone Viaduct, Cressbrook Mill and Litton Mill enroute. Further on (around 50 minutes) are other popular places for pottering around, like Dovedale valley with its wooded ravine and the 517-metre Mam Tor hill near Castleton, christened one of the Seven Wonders of the Peak by 17th-century philosopher Thomas Hobbes because of its dreamy views.
