Chances are your first stop will be the beach; lively Palamós (15 minutes’ drive) has a choice of palm-lined sandy stretches backed by a promenade. Kayakers and paddleboarders can get out on the water from Platja d’Aro (10 minutes), while there’s safe swimming from Cala Rovira (five minutes), tucked into a sheltered cove. If you’re after adrenaline-filled ways to keep teens happy, try the obstacle courses and ropeways at Costa Brava Parc Aventura Platja d’Aro (10 minutes), or the treetop nets at Aventura Park Sant Feliu de Guíxols (20 minutes). Gentle nature walks and a sculpture trail suitable for younger kids are found in Parc dels Estanys (10 minutes), or you can follow the coastal Camí de Ronda footpath to Castell de Sant Esteve de Mar (20 minutes) for spectacular sea views. Yearning to go to Barcelona? There’s a bus stop outside the campsite. It’s a 90-minute journey to the city, but it’s well worth it to see the spectacular, colour-filled interior of the Sagrada Família cathedral, meander the cobbled lanes of atmospheric Barri Gòtic and lunch on tapas at La Boqueria food market.
