Picture the scene: you open your bleary eyes and stumble from bed to find yourself in a private garden in southern Spain. The air smells of orange blossoms and jasmine, the birds are chirping, the sun is high overhead and a hammock awaits. Sounds like bliss, yes…? If that’s your idea of a dream holiday, get ready to find nirvana at Finca Fahala, a family-friendly glampsite in Andalusia, less than 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Cartáma and half an hour from the port city of Malaga. As if the citrusy haven that is Finca Fahala weren’t enough, you’re Costa del Sol adjacent here, so beaches abound; if you want to feel the sand under your feet and the waters of the Mediterranean lapping your toes, it's about half an hour from the nearest beach in Torremolinos. Not a beach buff? Turn away from the coast and venture inland: hikers should make tracks to the El Caminito del Rey route in El Chorro gorge while cyclists can whizz over to Alhaurín de la Torre for scenic trails. Back on site, cool off in the pool before getting fired up with a game of badminton, volleyball or table tennis, or chill out on one of the loungers before dinner. Speaking of which, you can cater for yourself – every unit has its own barbecue and kitchen – or hope you’re around on one of the nights the owners make a three-course meal for the guests.

喜欢 Si buscas un lugar para desconectar en plena naturaleza Finca Fahala es tu lugar. Un camping inusual con todas las necesidades cubiertas. Con pocos huéspedes es un lugar tranquilo y mágico y la atención por parte de sus anfitriones Flora y Alex lo hace especialmente maravilloso. Ha sido un descubrimiento para nosotros y volveremos sin dudarlo.

喜欢 We would recommend Finca Fahala to anybody staying in the Malaga area. We did a 3 week road-trip in Spain and this was by far our favourite stay! The hosts were so friendly and accommodating, the facilities were great and there’s a beautiful sunset view. Easy access to Malaga city by car and shops close by. We’ll be back!

Start your hols off on the right note with a trip into Cartáma for tours and tastings at Bodega Sanchez Rosada, then traipse up the hill to Castillo de Cartáma to take in the view. Top tip? Read the tiled plaques during the climb to get a taste for the history of the castle. There’s loads more history in nearby Malaga, half an hour’s drive from the site – the city is home to so many museums that it’s hard to imagine anyone not finding one to suit their tastes. Don’t fancy spending your days traipsing between historical exhibits? Turn your feet instead to the fortified Alcazaba palace or the botanical gardens… For a decidedly smaller urban experience, make your way to Mijas and Ojen, both about half an hour from the site: the scenic traditional villages are full of whitewashed houses that should make the snap-happy very happy indeed. Kids beginning to tire of Moorish palaces, pretty villages and leafy spots? There’s plenty nearby to get them back on side: start off in Torremolinos for stops at amusement parks, waterparks and aquariums, then head to Alhaurín de la Torre for horse riding trails through the Guadalhorce nature reserve.
