A family-friendly outdoor retreat in the scenic Crișul Repede Gorge – tucked into Romania’s dramatic Apuseni Mountains – Green Resort is surrounded by forested and steep limestone cliffs carved out by the fast-flowing Crișul Repede River. At 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of Șuncuiuș in north-west Romania, the property offers well-maintained grass pitches for tents and tourers.
Modern facilities include spotless shower blocks, access to electric hook-ups and plenty of space for everyone – dogs included – to have a good run around. There’s also a play area and swimming pool – the latter has a stunning view over the mountains.
The site also has a bar – the terrace is a great spot for a drink while watching the sun set over the hills – and a restaurant serving traditional Romanian and international dishes freshly prepared in the kitchens. Campfire evenings and concerts occasionally take place on site too.
Well-known for its pristine air and spectacular landscapes, the Bihor region is something of a hub for outdoor adventures. Green Resort is a convenient base for taking advantage of all the Apuseni peaks have to offer.

Here’s your chance to go rafting and kayaking on the Crișul Repede River; you can hire all the gear and join guided expeditions downstream at Rafting Suncuius/Vadu Crisului (five minutes’ walk). The same gang can also organise via ferrata climbing adventures for you, and advise on hiking, cycling and nature trails to follow in the spectacular Crișului Repede Gorge.
If you’d like to explore the subterranean limestone caverns that scatter the region, Vadu Crișului Cave (15 minutes’ drive) is one of the most accessible and impressive local cave systems; you can take guided tours of the fantastical stalagmites and stalactites and then take a selfie next to the tumbling Vadu Crișului Waterfall, close to the cave.
Back at ground level, treat your younger offspring to gentle climbing walls and rope bridges at Adventures Park Tomnatic-Vadu Crisului/Bihor (25 minutes). Alternatively, discover the stunning Apuseni hills on horseback (15 minutes), or whizz down them on sturdy mountain roller scooters (20 minutes).
