Set a 10-minute drive from the Algarve coast and 20 minutes from the centre of Lagos, Solar do Rei-Bodhichitta is a quiet site that’s both easy to get to and mightily scenic. With views over the sloping Faro countryside, this is an excellent setting to unwind, whether it’s by walking, meditating or meeting other guests in the community kitchen building on site. The site feels lovely and private, surrounded by greenery and with a small scattering of amenities including showers, composting loos and wifi. Dogs are welcome on site, too, so you don’t need to leave furry friends at home. Solar do Rei-Bodhichitta is a 10-minute drive from the fishing town of Burgau. More Algarve beaches are scattered along the surrounding coast and are easy to drive to in around 10 to 20 minutes, so guests can easily get stuck into activities like swimming, surfing, canoeing or diving. Hiking, biking and golfing are also nearby. Exploring beaches and the city of Lagos (20 minutes’ drive) could be hungry work, of course, and handily, the local village Barão de São João has several bars and restaurants (within five minutes’ drive of the site).
