This is a quiet spot, but that doesn't mean that you can't keep active on your hols: golf, a public pool and a spa are all under five minutes' drive from base. To get a flavour for the local countryside, head for Drimmelen (15 minutes' drive), a waterside town with a marina and opportunities to hire a craft of your own. There's more nature around these parts than you could shake a stick at: Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park is within easy reach (30 minutes), as is Biesbosch National Park (40 minutes), a hub for sailors, cyclists and walkers. If you'd rather be city-bound, make tracks for Breda (20 minutes), a lively riverside town with some of the best shops and restaurants around. There's plenty of history here too, including the Great Church, the Begijnhof and a stately castle. If your time team is hankering for more, take them to Loevestein Castle (35 minutes), a picture-worthy fortress at the confluence of the Meuse and Waal. For those with kids in tow, plan a magic-themed day out at Efteling theme park (30 minutes), or alternatively head for the adrenaline-boosting rides and slides of Beekse Bergen (35 minutes).
