This is a mighty peaceful place… and a mighty relaxed one too, for Laurent and the team at Camping Morédéna have designed their site to help guests unwind as much as humanly possible. There’s a pool, a pool, open in July and August, and even a boat launch and a pontoon on site for lucky ducks who’ve been able to bring along their own watersports equipment. (Yes, Camping Morédéna is by the water, on the banks of the river Sarthe.)
If you find cooking too much effort, ditch the whole idea and eat at Au Fil de l'Eau, the independent bar-restaurant at the entrance of the site; it does takeaways and breakfasts. Amusement is covered at the bar-restaurant, with family nights, free evening concerts and entertainment for all ages on the schedule.
When you're feeling peckish between meals, treat yourself to the ice cream and small refreshments on sale at reception. Here, it's also possible to order fresh bread and pastries and buy laundry tokens for the on-site washing machine.
Camping Morédéna has plenty of facilities for those who like to jam-pack their days with outdoor activities, including a playground, a sports area and a pétanque court. Guests can go fishing on the river or take off on the walking and cycling paths surrounding the site (one of which is a nice, wide walking path alongside the river).

Good news for tennis players: tennis courts are just a 10-minute walk from Camping Morédéna. Wildlife watchers can instead wander the surrounding countryside in search of species or make sure of sightings at the Zoo de la Flèche (35 minutes' drive).
One of the team’s favourite recommendations is Le Mans (55 minutes), the capital of the Sarthe department, famed throughout the world for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world's oldest active sports car race, held every June. If you’re not in town around then, the medieval old town, cathedral and other old sights also come highly recommended.
South of the site is the city of Angers (40 minutes), right on the edge of the Loire Valley. Its old town is worth another good wander around, with museums, a cathedral with twin spires and half-timbered houses. On the edge of the city is Terra Botanica (35 minutes), home to 500,000 plants – yes, 500,000, no exaggeration.
