What’s it to be – Brittany sightseeing or a beach holiday? Luckily for you, if you opt to stay at Camping Les Mouettes, you can easily do both. The site is five minutes’ drive from medieval Suscinio Castle or half an hour from historic Vannes, and the expansive sandy stretch of Landrezac Beach is a mere 10 minutes’ stroll from the pitches.
If you’re not a fan of sea swimming, this peaceful and manicured spot has its own heated pool too, along with a hydromassage bench and a paddling pool for toddlers. Other family-friendly facilities include a play area, pétanque alley, volleyball court and ping-pong tables.
There’s no need to worry about feeding the family either; order your daily bread and pastries from reception, where you can also fill up on ice cream, graze on snacks at the informal terrace bar or pick up takeaways to eat back at your accommodation. Food trucks put in an appearance during July and August too, so you can sample tasty Breton specialties like crêpes and gallettes as well as pizzas and burgers.

So, time for some sightseeing. First up may be the fairytale Suscinio Castle (five minutes’ drive), complete with moat, medieval turrets and ramparts, dressing up activities for kids and displays of armour. Also five minutes away by car, whitewashed Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Côte is worth a visit for its spectacular seaside setting and jewel-coloured stained-glass windows.
Carry on with the cultural visits and head for Vannes (half an hour) to walk around the defence walls and wander past half-timbered houses in the labyrinthine Saint-Patern quarter. Keep the kids happy with colourful butterflies in the Jardin aux Papillons, or learn about local sea life at the aquarium.
After all that activity, reward yourselves with a few days on Brittany beaches. As well as the sweeping golden sands of Landrezac Beach (10 minutes’ walk), options include Plage de Kervert (25 minutes), a popular spot for watching colourful sunsets, and Plage du Logéo (20 minutes) in the calm and stunning seascapes of the Gulf of Morbihan.
