Hassle-free outdoor stays in a peaceful location with easy access to pubs, cream teas, wild swims, woodland walks… you’ll need to head to the Himalayas for that. Not the actual Himalaya mountains, but secluded glamping site The Holmsted Himalayas in the West Sussex countryside. This quiet spot in the Ouse Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is up on a ridge so it’s got gorgeous views over the surrounding area, and is often treated to fine sunsets too (and some great stargazing after dark). The immediate surroundings are all woodland, open space and lakes to roam around, and the site has its own swimming pond where you can take a freshwater dip. Secluded this place may be, but it’s not cut off at all – there are a couple of pubs a mile or so away (with more pubs, cafés and restaurants in nearby villages like Warninglid and Cuckfield) and large supermarkets are in Haywards Heath, 10 minutes’ drive away. Plenty of days out are easy to get to as well: botanic gardens, National Trust properties, watersports, wine tasting… take your pick… And what of the accommodation? You’ll be staying in comfortable bell tents kitted out with thick foam mattresses, with soft bedding, rugs, lighting and an outdoor firepit (with home-produced firewood available from the farm). A short walk away is the communal stretch tent, which has shared facilities like fridges and kettles plus mains power for charging your devices.

喜欢 Everything set up & ready for arrival. Bell tent pitched, beds made, fire pit outside with dry logs dropped off just before dawn.
Communal Fridges, Plates, glassware & bbqs supplied.
Plenty of roaming room for children to be feral & adults to relax. Fantastic community of staff who will try to accommodate, welcome & help.
No dogs!

喜欢 Everything! It was the perfect spot. We have been camping for years and this is the best place we’ve stayed. The lake is just incredible and really elevates this place. The kids made friends and we’ve all agreed to book again next year - the only change we’ll make it staying for longer! The staff are so kind and helpful. Having the freezers / fridges is really helpful.

喜欢 We have just returned from a fabulous stay. Loved the bell tents, firepits, kids games, rope swing, swimming pond, kayaks, goats, tea, cakes, fabulous views, easy going hosts.
My 11 year old and 13 year old loved it!

喜欢 We have had such a lovely little break. As soon as we arrived we asked if we could book another night.

The kids have had the best time, they haven’t asked for iPads once! They have made friends with the other campers and had the best time running around the fields and swimming/kayaking in the pond.

The facilities are great, you don’t need to pack much. Plenty of chairs/tables, plates/mugs/bowls/cutlery. I didn’t realise they had electric in the communal area so I could charge my phone and store our milk.

We can’t wait to come again - the kids have had such a lovey adventure.

喜欢 This place is beyond awesome! The tents have everything you need to have a comfortable stay, amenities are handy and well maintained and the swimming pond is a major win. Would definitely recommend to all - we went there with our 3 year old who loved it but there was a real mix of families/couples/ages there. Close enough to a major train station for us to bike to the site but enough out in the country side to feel like you are getting back to nature.

喜欢 Good size area for kids to play safely including football; wild swimming and kayaks; excellent facilities such as communal fridge freezers and charging points; a covered communal area with tables chairs and sofas for eating and gathering, particularly when raining; good (warm) shower facilities; size of site and positioning of bell tents not cluttered and well spaced; lovely views and relaxing; last but not least really lovely friendly staff!

Please use 'The Courtyard' entrance on Staplefield Road (not the Holmsted Farm entrance). The Courtyard is located 30 metres south of the Holmsted Farm entrance, on the same side of the road as the farm driveway and up the hill. Head into the courtyard and turn left through the middle of the car park. There is a wooden gate in the top right-hand corner. Drive through the gate, past the caravan site and turn left up the hill alongside the dog-walking field.

Getting out for walks or bike rides is a fine idea around here – there are plenty of trails to follow in this scenic area, including popular ones that take in the huge arches of the Ouse Valley Viaduct (10 minutes’ drive). Golf is another great way to get out into the open air, at the courses in Cuckfield (two minutes) or Haywards Heath (10 minutes). Something a bit more active? Perhaps you’d like to get out onto the water for some kayaking, sailing or windsurfing at Ardingly Reservoir (15 minutes), or have a go at things like clay pigeon shooting, archery or axe-throwing at Q Leisure in Albourne (10 minutes). It doesn’t all have to be active though – more relaxing days are on hand at Nymans (five minutes), a National Trust estate with gorgeous gardens to explore, and Leonardslee Lake & Gardens (10 minutes), where you can meet the wallabies as well as exploring the grounds. And of course there’s always the option of taking a tour at Bolney Wine Estate (10 minutes) – and perhaps picking up something for your evening by the firepit?
