Weardale Water Sports - offers outdoor water sports such as: paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, outdoor swimming. Suitable for both beginners and those with more experience. 5 minutes by car or approx 45 minutes walk Stanhope - the historic town of Stanhope is a short 7 minute drive away or a 50 minute scenic walk. Stanhope is a quaint market town that offers pubs, cafes and shopping. North Pennines - The North Pennines AONB is practically on our doorstep. Many of the walking and cycling routes are only a short drive or walk away from Lower and Upper Weardale Lodges. You’ll find stunning views and trails just a few miles from your lodge, so it’s easy to get started on your outdoor adventure. Kynren - Kynren is a spectacular open-air live-action show held in Bishop Auckland, just under an hour’s drive from Weardale Lodges. Set against the backdrop of Auckland Castle, it tells the 2,000-year story of England through dazzling performances, dramatic effects, music, and fireworks, all packed into a 90 minute show. Think of it as a cinematic experience brought to life on stage, complete with horses, live battle scenes, Viking longships, and even a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth I. It’s staged by a 1,000-strong volunteer cast and crew, making it one of the UK’s most impressive community-led productions. Bowes Museum - Set in the market town of Barnard Castle, the Bowes Museum was founded in the 19th century by John and Joséphine Bowes, a couple with a passion for art and a mission to bring it to the North East. It is a grand, historical building filled with European fine and decorative arts, famous fashion exhibitions, and rare historical artefacts. approx 35 min drive from our lodges
