Head into the Gloucestershire countryside and you probably won’t be surprised to spot a few farm animals along the way. Bet you didn't expect to find dinosaurs as well though… You’re likely to encounter both when you stay at Catchasmile, a well-maintained site on the banks of the River Severn about 15 minutes’ drive from Gloucester. The pitches here are next door to Dan’s Dino’s & Friends, and for a small extra charge (payable on site) you can head into the attraction to see horses, goats, sheep and chicks, as well as meeting those (model) dinos. And that’s not all there is to do at this friendly and well-equipped site, as you can also try your hand at fishing. There’s equipment for hire, bait to buy and occasional competitions for kids and adults, so there’s something for both beginners and more experienced anglers alike. There’s a warm welcome here for all guests, with special needs well catered for – there’s an accessible bathroom in the toilet block, along with wheelchair fishing platforms and accessible pathways, and the staff are well practised at welcoming disabled visitors. Pick a pitch here and you’ll have access to handy facilities including wifi and a toilet block, and you can buy snacks and hot and cold drinks at the on-site café. There’s a barbecue area and a firepit area as well, so you’ll also be able to have a go at outdoor cooking if you like (handily, there are a couple of supermarkets about a mile away for the supplies) and try building a fire to keep warm during the evening.

喜欢: Owners were absolutely delightful. Very friendly and helpful. Close to Gloucester and lovely walk to pub along canal close by.

不喜欢: Visitors arriving at 9am to fish and do activities. Sadly toilets were dirty and not cleaned during 3 night stay. Views were of dyed ponds and model dinosaurs. Owners have put a lot of effort into making this an accessible fishing/activity centre. It is not really a campsite.

喜欢: Really liked the owners. So welcoming and friendly. Also, surrounded by nature and a small-holding plus a small fishing lake set up for learning-difficulty people and their families. The lambs were beautiful.
There’s also a crazy golf!

不喜欢: The facilities need some work. Toilets need a makeover. The shower is set up for disabled use so we didn’t use it. The owners are constantly working on improvements though

喜欢: Catch a Smile was a lovely camping experience. The whole atmosphere was tranquil and we passed a very pleasant night. The site is welcoming and the management team extremely courteous. We will return.

喜欢: Great hosts and a wonderful location. We stayed on a summers evening with the site owners pet goats and sheep wandering around the pitches. A good site, well recommended.

露营舱

喜欢: Owners-frendly, helping, welcoming. Everything for fishing is ready there all we had to bring was food, sleepingbags and change of clothes (fishes are slimie). Easy conection if you want to travel by train/ bus. Very good and fast message reaponse from owners.

不喜欢: The only thing was time going to fast and wd wished we booked for longer

喜欢: Friendly staff, closed gates at night so it was safe (although I only discovered the closed gates in the morning so was not aware that they were going to be closed).

不喜欢: There was traffic noise from the M5 and frequent racer cars with adapted exhausts and thumping music on the country lane by the campsite.
The ground was prone to waterlogging and water pooled on the surface of the field after a night of rain.
It was a very expensive night in view of the location, lack of drinking water and showers. The only facility was the toilet.
There were no directions on the website about how to reach the campsite and Google could not provide a route (as it did not recognise the bridge).

You may find that much of your time here is taken up with the antics on site, but it’s really worth leaving time to get out into the wider area – for starters, there are some nice walks to be had on the paths running alongside the River Severn and the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal. You might also like to head into Gloucester city centre (15 minutes’ drive) to visit the cathedral and National Waterways Museum or make use of the shops and restaurants at Gloucester Quays. The Barn Owl Centre (five minutes) is on the way into the city too, or you could head round to the far side to be wowed by the planes at the Jet Age Museum (25 minutes). For a full day out, maybe consider heading west to the Forest of Dean to explore the trails of Puzzle Wood, delve underground at Clearwell Caves or take to the treetops at the Go Ape adventure park – they’re all pretty close to each other and around 45 minutes’ drive from Catchasmile.
