Great ‘green’ campsite on farm with simple, and sustainable, approach to campsite facilities

Great site. The view was great and the field next to the camp site has lots of cute animals to see and have a stroke if you're lucky enough. There was a week old foal whoch was superb to see. Lots of bird songs and my bird ID app caught a few uncommon and rare species! The Pantry on site is brilliant. Delicious food overall. Lots of walking routes and sites to see. Worth the price for sure. A few of the other campers were regulars and very friendly. Toilets were very clean though lacked hot water. They were quite dark too as the lights were a bit hit and miss By the Pantry there were showers and places for washing up though which did have hit water

While very peaceful on the Friday evening, on the Saturday very loud music was playing from a nearby pub (cricket club perhaps?). Obviously this has nothing to do with the owners, but it was quite disturbing and woke/kept a few of the young children on site up.

The toilets and showers were basic and dirty, they had been built badly on the cheap. The wash up area is a sink with barely running water.
The couple in the tin shed next to us left after 1 night, they said we could use the hot tub if we wanted, they had paid for a shepherds hut, this had a chemical toilet ,double bed and a single stove, we could not work out how to empty the hot tub and clean it so we didn't bother. We have stayed in 2 different shepherd's hut, this was not a £90 a night stay in any way shape or form.
The cows and horses in the field adjacent to the camp site were filthy,I was born and raised on a farm so I was sad to see the horses so unkempt with a very young foal. The Highland cows were so matted.
My husband went to use the toilets at the bottom of the field , he said they looked like they had not been cleaned in months, there were cob webs everywhere and they were stinking. We had a storm the second night, no staff came to see if were all OK in fact staff were never present in the camp, other than 1030 in the morning to make sure we had all left.

Warm welcome with everything we needed. A great spot, tucked away at the top of the field.

Took advantage of the pizzas from The Pantry across the road, very nice and very convenient!

Will definitely look to stay again.

This is site is quite peaceful (if you are near the bottom, away from the main road..
It's next to 2 fields with cows & horses in

There is a busy main road that cars race up & down that separates the site (field) from the showers / toilets and the shop.
The cleanliness of the shower block is questionable. There were bits of hair at 7am in the morning that were still in the same place at 8pm.
There is toilet 'block' at the bottom of the field, which quite frankly was disgusting. There is a sign in it saying cleaned daily - I don't think it was cleaned once over our 3 day stay! if it was cleaned, it certainly was not done properly as it smelled absolutely vile. We had to cover our noses & mouths when entering by day 2.
There aren't enough bins on the site. These were overflowing by day 2 and we just had to stack our rubbish next to it/ near it....... and the rubbish was still there by the end of day 3!
It could be made such a better site with only a few changes.

Very clean site with amazing facilities. A perfect location for walkers or if you want to pop down to the village for a pint and food. Co-op down the road for anything you've forgotten. The site also offers homemade pizzas, breakfast sandwiches, hot and cold drinks. You can also go up to Silkstone Common (about 10-15 min walk) and enjoy another drink or jump on the train. Really enjoyed our weekend and we will definitely be coming back.
