We can be rather indecisive sometimes. (Perhaps.) So if we were dithering about a holiday in either France or Spain, we might just, possibly, pick camping in the Pyrénées-Orientales. (That’s probably a great big fib: we’d angle for a fortnight in both.)
Pyrénées-Orientales in mainland France’s most southern region the Languedoc-Roussillon is so Spanish in influence it was once part of Catalonia, and about a quarter of its population still speak Catalan as well as French – ole! As for la France, many campsites in Pyrénées-Orientales are on the eastern side of the department and the very French strip of the Mediterranean’s long sandy beaches and the Côte Vermeille; inland, another ole and another week booked, we think, at the ski resorts and mountain biking of the Cerdagne and Capcir in the Catalan Pyrenees Regional Natural Park.
Also make room (in week four) for days in Pyrénées-Orientales’s capital Perpignan, the Musée d'Art Moderne in cubist Céret, and two days perhaps at the fishing port, hot springs and vineyard of Banyuls-sur-Mer – good wine is also very French (and Spanish)…
