Gostou Spent 2 nights at Mynnyd Mawr Campsite on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th August. Came over from Widnes so was a bit of a trek. Think it took almost 3 hours in the end and traffic wasn't bad at all on the way, so if you come at the weekend or in rush hour, expect to travel for quite a while. The site is not difficult to find really but the long, thin, winding roads are very tight for a campervan, and you will have to navigate your way past traffic coming towards you through the last few miles of the journey, so if you get flustered easily, maybe this site isn't for you.
The fields are on a slope, so only limited flat areas so bring ramps if you don't like falling out of bed. The views over the sea are great but be warned that the photos of the site are quite deceiving as so are quite a way from the actual water, and it isn't accessible at all for taking a dip. There are various walks around the area but they are all uphill from the campsite, and not great if you are wearing flip flops or crocs, which we found out when we were on our way up the hills! The site is very basic, but does have a decent shower and toilet block, and wash area. Only 2 showers for men and 2 for women though so it might be quite a wait if the site is busy.
It was very quiet when we stayed, despite quite a few people staying overnight on the Wednesday to see the Eclipse (which was rubbish, as we didn't see much). There is a small cafe onsite which serves a bit of food but we didn't go in, so can't comment on the quality.
One thing I will definitely say is make sure yoh take enough supplies for longer than you are staying, as there isn't a shop for miles and you'd have to drive into Aberdaron for supplies, which is about a 10 minute drive away (but back down those country lanes!
Aberdaron is a lovely bay village, with a couple of pubs and cafes, a spar and some small gifts shops. A local village for local people....haha. Beach was really nice with clean sand and clear water. Not overly crowded when we went but can imagine it being really busy in warm weather and at the weekend.
Overall a great stay for a couple of nights but if you are looking for something to keep you busy, take board games, playing cards etc...
Mobile phone signal none existent so if you need to keep in contact with people, don't choose this site. Not necessarily a negative as its good to get away from it all, and this site definitely gives you that.
