If gazing out over the lake has inspired you to get out onto or into the water, take the five-minute drive to Cannobio for sailing, windsurfing and waterskiing, or have a chat with the folks on site for details of preferential rates with a local scuba diving setup. Should you prefer to stick to dry land for a while (but still take in those lovely lake views), the hills around Cannobio have a good network of not too demanding footpaths, along with a cycle path along the side of a river to the bridge and chapel at Orrido di Sant’Anna (also a top spot for a swim on a hot day). It's a drive of around half an hour down to Pallanza, where recommended options include a wander around the Villa Taranto botanic gardens and boarding a boat over to Borromeo Palace on flower-filled Isola Madre.
