Rural idyll or beach holiday? If you can’t make up your mind, you can hedge your bets at Trerise Farm Campsite, a spacious, peaceful spot surrounded by the vast Cornish countryside – and a mere five-minute drive (or a half-hour’s walk) from the spectacular coastline of the Lizard Peninsula and beaches like Kennack Sands. Start by choosing your own pitch over the several fields available, then head over to the on-site café to check in, say hi to the owners and stock up on tasty snacks and drinks. A farm shop on site sells basic provisions, including farm-reared meat; if you need more supplies for your barbecue, there’s a convenience store in the village of Ruan Minor (five minutes’ drive) or in Mullion (10 minutes). And if you fancy a break from cooking, there are restaurants (plus shops and supermarkets) in the medium-sized town of Helston (20 minutes). Your canine buddies are welcome to join you (and Kennack Sands East is a dog-friendly beach), but please make sure that they’re kept on leads and under control at all times. This is, after all, a working farm, and you’re likely to come across chickens, goats, miniature ponies, pigs and geese during your stay. All of the farm animals are friendly and curious, but mind your fingers if you want to fuss them. Firepits are allowed, and you can buy a fire bucket, wood and kindling straight from the site. Facilities include toilets, showers, waste disposal and a washing-up point.

Gostou A beautiful little spot to take in the beauty of the Lizard Peninsula. I booked this on a whim, took my motorbike over, and didn't expect much. However, I was sincerely impressed by the beautiful backdrops surrounding the campsite, ease of access to clean toilets and showers, as well as the adorable animals on site.

For the price asked, this is a wonderful place to camp and meet others! Would definitely camp here again, should I return to the Lizard.

Gostou Great campsite, lots of space and was surprisingly quiet considering the weather.
Hosts are lovely and very accommodating, cafe is excellent and well priced. Pizza night with the mobile bar attending was a great surprise that we hadn't planned for. Lovely animals that you can buy some feed for for a low price at the cafe and have a great time feeding the animals.
A 10-15 minute drive to so many incredible places.

Gostou We stayed at 3 campsites over the space of a week and Trerise Farm was our favourite by far! The farm animals were just so wonderful, and the fact that we could go and spend time with them whenever we felt like was such a lovely experience! Our daughter loved them. Especially the cheeky goats!
The shed with the freezer and electric plug sockets were an actual dream, made life living in a tent much easier!
The shower/toilet blocks were simple and clean, does what it says on the tin!
It was such an easy going, relaxed vibe. No strict rules, but they made sure the group of bikers that were making a silly amount of noise our first night there, keeping the little ones awake, were not there for a second night! No messing about!
The owners were lovely, and we got to experience pizza night, the pizza was delicious, the owners were working so hard to get the pizzas baked and out to us all, it was a lovely afternoon, a real community vibe! We are already planning to come back next summer, but for much longer!
Super close to a few beaches as well!
Oh, also, the view of the stars at night was absolutely spectacular, genuinely awe inspiring! Trerise Farm was a great place to do some epic star gazing!

Gostou A relaxed campsite with spectacular views of the night's sky on clear nights! Truly jaw dropping.
Our kids enjoyed feeding the animals and the milkshakes in the cafe were said to be the best in the world!
Thank you for not being precious about timekeeping. It made such a difference packing up and squeezing everything into the car!

Are you up for a bracing hike along the South West Coast Path? You can join this long-distance trail at Kennack Sands and head west, towards Great Britain’s southernmost spot, Lizard Point (two hours on foot; or 15 minutes’ drive). Take in views of the Atlantic Ocean and keep your eyes peeled for seals. Head to the town of Marazion (40 minutes) and wait for low tide, perhaps killing a few hours at RSPB Marazion Marsh, home to herons and egrets. Then walk along the causeway to St Michael’s Mount, a small, green island topped by a centuries-old castle. The harbourside National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth (40 minutes) has interesting displays on the local nautical heritage (plus temporary exhibitions on related subjects, including pirates and tattoos). From Falmouth you can also catch a ferry across the river estuary to St Mawes Castle, built by Henry VIII in the 16th century.
