Well, isn’t this a really rather fine rural setting – on the banks of the River Ribble and within easy rambling distance of restorative pints at one of Horton-in-Ribblesdale’s three country pubs: how fab... Cragg Hill Farm is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the views from this peaceful place won’t let you forget that for even a sec. Gaze in one direction and you'll hopefully see Pen-y-Ghent towering over the site; turn the other way and you might just catch a glimpse of the Settle-Carlisle Railway trains wending their way through the scenic surrounds. Settle is a 15-minute drive to the south; as well as being the launch point for train rides, it’s also a good place to source supermarket supplies (or have a swim or a game of golf if you’re shunning such mundanities as shopping). For other days out, it’s recommended you look not much further than roaming around the Yorkshire Dales – although you could also consider hitting the coast at Morecambe, an hour’s drive away, if you’re yearning for a bit of sea air. Back at the farm, life is pretty laidback, with no noisome ents to interfere with the peace, just toilets, hot showers and a washing-up area to keep you and your kit clean.

Gostou Lots of space, fairly busy but never felt cramped. Great facilities (hot water for washing up, drinking water, toilets and showers). Owners were around to help with any issues, toilets were cleaned regularly and bins empty. Lovely quiet location with lots of walks nearby and a train line close by.

Gostou peaceful and quiet, superb views, pitches are nice and flat, well kept, cant fault the setting.

Não gostou facilities are OK but just that, toilets are in portal type buildings, lights weren't working when we were there but not massive big deal.

they could do with being a tad bigger and more protected in case of bad weather, maybe under a pergola type wooden setup as exists on other sites.

I think for the price it's a tad expensive but I guess you pay for the location and lack of pother options.

owners seem to be a bit unfriendly and sharp (maybe having a bad day). It would be much easier to be able to pay upfront and online.

Gostou Cragg hill farm is a beautiful basic site we have stayed a few times and will continue to come back, owners are always very friendly, showers and toilets are always clean, plenty of water taps scattered around the site, just something to be aware of with it been a none electricity site the toilets do not have lights so remember your torch, for the price I don’t know what else you would want it’s beautiful with beautiful views and the trains passing are lovey to see

Gostou Very reasonable price for a decently located, no frills campsite. Well maintained plots and lovely view of Pen-y-ghent. For a quick getaway, does the job and more!

Não gostou Sold as a 'peaceful' site but the rules to establish peace not followed. One couple pitching up at 11pm (last check in stated as 9pm), slamming doors for half hour. Details state 'no single-sex parties' yet a group of 4 lads pitch up the second night. 'Quiet time from 9pm' yet they had their music on until gone midnight. No details provided at check in of who to call. Heavy rain caused two of the portaloos to flood (assuming nobody closed the door), but nobody came down to check. Meant only one portaloo was usable as others had locks broke or were just zoned off.

Do gestor: The toilets were checked on the edge of darkness and were fine. The next morning three of the toilets were found to have been flooded by a person or persons unknown probably by overflowing the sinks with additional soil trampled in. There are other toilets near the farmhouse.

Gostou The site was beautiful, peaceful and well-maintained. It's close enough to walk to the pub or even Pen Y Ghent if you are looking for a challenge, but it's set away from the main road so that all you hear is the river and the birds. Very pleased with the toilets and a comfortable shower.

Gostou Stunning location well kept grass

Não gostou No lights in the toilets so it was really dark even during the day, also the showers only stay on for 5 seconds and you keep needing to press the button

This is a mighty fine part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park to be based in, as it’s within easy reach of several fab sights. Malham Cove and Malham Tarn, half an hour away by car, combine to make an excellent day’s walk; the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail (25 minutes’ drive) is another that’s worth walking. If it’s not walking weather, get underground at White Scar Cave (20 minutes) or Ingleborough Cave (35 minutes). Not active enough? Those for whom Pen-y-Ghent is not so much scenery as a challenge can set out from the site for the climb to the 694-metre peak. Follow up by scaling slightly taller Ingleborough (also accessible on foot from the farm) and taller-still Whernside (15 minutes’ drive) to tick Yorkshire’s Three Peaks Challenge off your bucket list. You may like a little sit down after all that (or instead…) and a fine place for that is in a seat on the Settle to Carlisle Railway, which you can board at the nearest station a mile away in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Even if you’re not up for the ride, you may like to take in the view of the Ribblehead Viaduct (15 minutes), famed for many as the route taken by the Hogwarts Express.
