The beach in Breskens may well be the place where you spend most of your time around here, but if you fancy a change of coastal scenery you can set off for Knokke-Heist (half an hour’s drive), a smart resort with lots of luxury shops and art galleries as well as the beach. Alternatively, walk up to the harbour in Breskens to book a boat taking you out in search of seals and porpoises. To see a bit more of the local landscape, there are lots of walking and bike routes around the surrounding area – ask at reception for a map to find one that’s suitable for your requirements. A little further afield, Het Zwin nature park (half an hour) is a lovely place for an outing among the dunes and salt marshes. For town time, take the 10-minute ferry ride to Vlissingen to explore the harbour and walk along the country’s longest boulevard, or cross over into Belgium for canal trips in Bruges (45 minutes’ drive) or sample great food and beer among the medieval buildings of Ghent (an hour).
