Set on four acres of quiet countryside 10 minutes’ drive from Pembroke in South Wales, The Speculation Inn Campsite comes with a big bonus: a 200-year-old pub on site… because let’s be honest, camping is better when there’s a guaranteed pint at the end of the day. The Speculation Inn has been busy welcoming travellers for over two centuries, and now it welcomes tents, campervans, motorhomes, and anyone who enjoys fresh air followed by food, drink and a warm glow of smug contentment. With spacious pitches and a relaxed vibe, this is camping done properly – rural but comfortable… and slightly indulgent thanks to the historic pub a short stroll away. The owners have installed a modern and clean (no ‘rustic surprises’ here) shower block with separate facilities for men and women and washing-up sinks outside. There’s a small charge for showers, but there’s plenty of hot water to go round. You can get ultra-fast wifi across the entire property, so yes, you can stream, video call or pretend you’re working while actually looking at your favourite Insta sites. Dogs are welcome too, and you can exercise them on several outstanding Welsh beaches within 15 minutes’ drive of the pitches.

Gostou Great dog walking trail from site and their pub is really cosy. Had a fab fire and excellent company from the owner all evening. Would recommend.

Gostou Nothing was too much trouble for the owners. We had issues with the EHU so contacted the owners and they promptly came and sorted it for us. They even brought us croissants on our last morning as an apology which was greatly appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed 🥰

Não gostou Only issue that would make the stay even better would be some sort of table / stool in the shower cubicle so you could use it when getting dressed. Also the shelf by the sink is too tiny and a table here would be beneficial.

Gostou David and Martin are very friendly and extremely helpful. The pub is a lovely meeting hub for campers and the food is delicious and good value. Plenty of nice places to visit/walk.

Não gostou The road can be noisy at peak times as can the firing range but we got used to it. Facilities are basic but the cost of a pitch is very reasonable.

Gostou Really friendly owner, very accommodating and hospitable with good communication throughout. We arrived late afternoon, it was easy to find our pitch and set up/connect to hook up. We had delicious pub food, a few pints and even a game of ping pong (and the tunes in the pub were great!). The 2 dogs on site were also a very cute addition. The site is really well situated to explore the local area and not only did the owner give us so many local recommendations, they also kindly helped us and dropped us off to the start location of our walk (and gave us some yummy banana bread!). Would definitely recommend and stay here again!

Gostou Spacious pitch , facilities close by , the pub and log fire amazing. Very helpful hosts give good advice around the area for places to visit . Location is excellent Pembroke only 10 Min drive and stunning beaches the same

Não gostou The shower was a little weak and toilet block area .only cold water sink for washing up .

Several beaches with different vibes are nearby; the sweep of sand at Freshwater West (10 minutes’ drive) is the one for surfing and rock pooling, and don’t miss the stone cairn at Dobby’s Grave. The inlet at West Angle Bay is sheltered, and Broad Haven South is known for stunning sunsets. You have a cliff path to negotiate down to gorgeous Barafundle Bay (all three are 15 minutes away by car) but it’s worth the effort for the calm sea, safe for novice swimming. Kids needing more entertainment? Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (25 minutes) is a fun-filled day out, with animal encounters and fairground rides (and indoor fun if the weather turns on you). Likewise, Heatherton World of Activities (20 minutes) is packed with family activities like paintballing, archery and mini golf to keep everyone having fun. If you can, sneak in a bit of culture. As featured in ‘His Dark Materials’, St Govan’s Chapel (15 minutes) is a minuscule hermit’s cave tucked into the cliffside. You can have a bit of a potter around Stackpole Walled Gardens (10 minutes), where kids will enjoy finding the Gaudí-style crocodile sculptures, and at National Trust - Stackpole (15 minutes), you can all search for the mysterious wickerwork figures hidden in woodland glades.
