One acre of wild meadow all to yourself, not to mention a whole 18-foot yurt with a firepit? If that sounds just dandy, get yourself down to Ashmead Meadow, 20 minutes’ drive away from Glastonbury. With a wild meadow to welcome you in and a set-up which permits children and well-behaved dogs, there’s no point in twiddling your thumbs… You won’t have much time for thumb twiddling when you arrive either, considering that there’s an outdoor firepit with cast-iron cooking options such as a Dutch oven and skillet (for cooking outdoors) and an outdoor barn kitchen with a two-ring gas hob and kitchen equipment. Additional firewood is available to purchase in the barn, but the owners provide plenty of kindling and logs. Slow down if you wish and spend a bit of time in nature. The yurt is at the top of a gently-sloping wildflower meadow, surrounded by mature hedgerows, herbs and trees. With low light pollution on a high ridge above the Vale of Avalon and the Somerset Levels, starry skies may very well visit. Off-grid, spacious and not to mention attractive, the locally-made ash yurt is cosy at night as it has a woodburner and an efficient solar lighting system. Sleeping four, it's kitted out with single beds and a kingsize bed with a duck down duvet, pillows, bedding and towels; ask if you'd like to switch out the kingsize bed for two more singles. There’s also a private composting toilet and eco cleaning products. Foodwise, Pitney (10 minutes’ drive) has an organic farm shop, a café and a pub serving good food.

Não gostou No 2 ring gas hob in Yurt,although photos and description says there is.Freezing cold and you can't boil a kettle in Yurt for hot water to wash in..Thank God we've a campervan.Was expecting a peaceful break but the Farmer worked all Christmas Day using heavy machinery.An experience not to be repeated!

Do gerente: I am sorry you were so disappointed with your stay. I do wish you had contacted me as the hob could easily have been carried into the yurt instead. I did think you must have been very cold as you used barely any wood. It was extremely cold over xmas and although the yurt is fully insulated it definitely needs the woodburner lit throughout your stay and ideally, a kettle of hot water kept on top of the hot stove. I am very sad it was such a poor experience for you.

Gostou A lovely getaway in a beautiful location. We spent a weekend with our two boys and dog and loved it.

The yurt is deceptively big on the inside so there was plenty of space for all of us and the benefit of real mattresses meant we all slept better than our usual tent experience.

We spent our evenings around the fire pit under the stars and enjoyed the time to just be a family without a lot of the normal distractions.

We knew that the yurt was off grid so packed plenty of supplies, but bottles of drinking water were provided. We'd definitely go back in future or recommend to anyone who wants a quiet getaway.

Gostou Everything was amazing! Peaceful, clean and great communication from the owner. We had everything we needed and as standard campers this was indeed luxury for us. I will definitely be back.

Gostou What a beautiful peaceful place. There is nothing more tranquil with cooking outside, staring at the stars when in bed. The yurt is beautifully laid out. Surrounded by nature. We couldn't fault it. So we have booked again for November so we can truly appreciate the warmth from the log burner. You want to get back to nature for a relax or reboot this is the place. The local pub just up the hill was welcoming and you must try the local cider.

Gostou This was an amazing experience for myself and my teenage sons.. The yurt is absolutely stunning with everything you need. Warm and cozy loads of space. Star gazing through the top of the yurt was beautiful at night. We made fires enjoyed the tranquility and so private. We will be booking again!! Highly recommended and the locals at the Kings Head pub were all friendly and welcoming too.

Get set for Glastonbury’s many historic sites (20 minutes’ drive), including Glastonbury Tor, Glastonbury Abbey, Chalice Well and The White Spring. There are shops, pubs and cafés there to settle any hunger pangs. Cheddar Gorge and Caves (40 minutes) will settle any further adventure pangs. The clifftop walk is bound to be splendid, but there are options close by too like Turn Hill and Aller woods (five minutes) or nature reserves like RSPB Ham Wall (15 minutes). What else? The Bere Cider Company (five minutes)? Watersports in Langport (10 minutes)? Historical sites like Muchelney Abbey (10 minutes), The Newt in Somerset (40 minutes), Wells Cathedral (half an hour)?
