They’ve got a bit of a thing about food around Sandwich – this is, after all, a place that gave its name to one of the world’s fave lunchtime meals.
Your diet’s likely to stretch beyond that when you’re staying at Delf Glamping Hut, on a six-acre smallholding 15 minutes’ stroll from the centre of the Kent town. From this handy spot you can easily wander to restaurants in town, or amble/bike out to country pubs (or, if you’ve got sights sets on sampling everything this stretch of coast has to offer, head off to seaside restaurants in Deal, Ramsgate and Folkestone).
It’s highly likely that you’ll select to stick around for alfresco eats on site at some point too – might the barbecue in the hut’s little private courtyard look even more appealing when you learn that you can base it around homegrown fruit and veg from the farm shop? There’s a chiminea/firepit provided as well, to keep the outdoor warmth going for those sitting out to watch the sunset.
There should be plenty of warmth to be had inside the shepherd’s hut too – it’s been kitted out with a pot belly logburner (and a generous stack of logs), and a two-burner hob on which to cook up a cosy breakfast.
The hut’s off grid but has solar-powered lighting and a port to charge phones and the like; it has cold running water, but hot water’s in plentiful supply at the bathroom hut across the courtyard, which has a shower and a chemical toilet.

Once you’ve snapped a pic of yourself eating a sandwich by the town name sign (ho ho), wander a bit further into the medieval streets of Sandwich to see the Guildhall Museum and Salutation Gardens before carrying on to Richborough Roman Fort or turning coastwards for days at the beach and/or bird observatory.
Those whose wildlife wishes stretch to something a bit bigger can take several days over seeking out the sizeable beasts at Sandwich Wildlife Park (two minutes’ drive), Wingham Wildlife Park (10 minutes) and Howletts Wild Animal Park (20 minutes).
History heads will be kept busy around these parts too – the Kent coast’s role in the front line of numerous quarrels has left it with castles galore, including those in Deal (10 minutes), Walmer (15 minutes) and Dover (20 minutes). Canterbury’s famed cathedral, abbey and Canterbury Tales exhibit are around half an hour away.
