Scar Close Camping and Glamping is a peaceful site set in the grounds of a 36-acre old hobby farm in the Arnside and Silverdale Area National Landscape. The surrounding landscape is made up of sloping hills, grassland and woodland, and the coast is within easy reach (20 minutes’ drive) – you can see the waters of Morecambe Bay from the site, which sits at the foot of Warton Crag, a prominent limestone hill and the highest point in Arnside and Silverdale. Guest facilities at this spacious rural spot include serviced toilet cubicles and basic showers. Coffee and croissants are available to buy in the morning, and there is plentiful parking, too (with an alternative area off the grass in the event of wet weather). The owners recommend bringing a bucket or bowl for washing up, as well as a torch – it can get very dark in this part of northern Lancashire at night. (But that translates into excellent stargazing, so no one is complaining…) Geared towards families, laidback Scar Close also welcomes well-behaved pets (who should be on leads and carefully supervised at all times). While you can’t build an open fire, a ready-made traditional stone firepit is available for evening cook-outs, and barbecues are welcome as long as they’re not placed directly on the ground or picnic benches. The small village of Warton is about a mile down the road and has a brewery, pub and post office.

Gostou A lovely site with friendly staff and the fanciest looking facilities I've ever seen on a campsite. The location with views out over Morecambe bay is wonderful, there's plenty of flat spots despite the gentle overall slope of the site. Note, the ground is very hard so bring a mallet!

The little popup breakfast van on site (Scarbucks!) was great, especially as there's nothing else nearby really. It would be quite nice if there was a little shop on site, perhaps something the owners could consider?

Good phone service on site.

Não gostou They have a fancy electronic gate with numberplate recognition which I'm sure is great if you arrive by car, it is however not very motorcycle friendly and meant I didn't feel confident going out in the evening as if no one was around to open it for me I'd have potentially have been locked out of the site. Having a code or something to open the gate would be really beneficial as it's a super site otherwise.

Gostou We had a wonderful weekend camping at Scar Close. The site is very well run, the facilities are amazing and immaculately clean. The views from our tent over to Morecambe Bay are stunning. We particularly enjoyed the coffee and bacon sandwich from Scarbucks. We look forward to returning very soon.

Gostou Stunning views, facilities and hosts. The 'Scarbucks' was a lovely treat in the morning too! Close to a couple of public football paths and Warton Crag for some lovely walks. The highland cows were cute as well! Safe and comfortable campsite for a solo female camper.

Gostou Stunning views. Friendly, safe and relaxed. Thoughtfully planned pitches and facilities. Nice to be able to hire the fire pit and get wood on site. Excellent coffee from Scarbucks! Lots to do in the local area. We did a fantastic walk at Warton Crag and a had a beach day at Arnside. Enjoyed a pint and some live music at the Old School Brewery. Thank you for your hospitality. A true paradise!

Gostou Great views, nice clean field, really nice toilet and shower block.

Não gostou Not a dislike, but there’s no signage (apart from later found a tiny A4 piece of paper saying where it was) on the toilet/shower block, the staff were busy when we arrived so didn’t have time to explain to us so spent 10 mins searching for it as it looks like another farm building.

In addition to elegant interiors and expansive parkland, Leighton Hall Estate (10 minutes’ drive) runs a lively programme of events, which includes falconry displays, plant fairs and craft markets. A little further up the road, the wetlands of RSPB Leighton Moss are home to egrets, harriers and red deer. Take a stroll along the wide promenade that hugs the bay at Morecambe (25 minutes), stopping for a selfie next to the statue of British comedian Eric Morecambe. Close to the seafront, there are also a bowling alley, a trampoline park and a skatepark, so the kids should have plenty to keep them occupied while you take a tour of the Morecambe Winter Gardens theatre (Easter–October). On the banks of Lake Windermere, the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (40 minutes) recreates the fictional universe of beloved characters like Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck. After that, you can cross the lake and visit National Trust - Hill Top (50 minutes), the cottage where the children’s author lived and worked.
