Like the sound of a really rather special glamping experience in the Lake District? Give Abbots Reading Farm a go. Their octolodges – natty camping pods sleeping up to six people – are well-insulated and cosy whatever the weather, and have spectacular views of the Rusland Valley and Coniston foothills. Based on a South Lakes farm, the lodges have lots of home comforts, such as beds with memory-foam mattresses, plenty of storage for your gear, a fridge, kettle and microwave for making simple meals and a TV for your downtime. Electricity keeps all your devices powered up as well as heating the units. All you need to bring is sleeping bags and pillows, cooking equipment and eating utensils – and an all-important torch for finding the loos after dark. Family-friendly and communal facilities include a heated shower block, pot-washing and laundry areas, a barn (covered for wet-weather days) with picnic tables and benches for barbecues, and ping pong tables. Outside there’s a large play area with a toddler climbing frame and a soccer field with nets. Each pod also comes with its personal charcoal barbecue and firepit. Get out and about in the Lake District National Park by day, and come back on clear evenings to watch the sunset from your balcony and look out for birdlife including frequent visitors curlews, kingfishers, herons, red kites and owls. Around the hills and fields of the farm you may also spot otters and red or roe deer. The local town of Ulverston (10 minutes’ drive) has everything you need for stocking up on provisions.

Gostou Fantastic place to visit with kids. Real camping experience in most iconic scenery. very well situated - close to all attractions lake District can offer. Host, Tony, is a real gem-stone - he will give you best tips and point you to all local attractions; we used as foundation for our daily planner.

Gostou Great location and excellent host. Very kind and hospitable and more than happy to quickly resolve any issues. The pod was perfect, even with 2 small children. Animals were great to have around too. Beds were really comfy!

Gostou Excellent small 'glamping' site with a great host, Tony. Farm eggs for sale, fire pit/BBQ and logs/charcoal available to purchase, great views and a very peaceful setting set on Tonys working farm. Small football pitch with goals for a kick about with the kids, great site with well kept clean cabins including a fridge and power points, matresses are comfortable you just need sheets and a sleeping bag. The owner, Tony, will help with anything and everything that he can to make your stay relaxing. Showers and toilets kept clean and tidy daily, good location for exploring or just sit and relax and take in the views. Had a great stay and would visit again

Gostou Weve had an absolute blast!!! Tony was such an excellent host!! Nothing is too much trouble and he chatted to everyone and even chatted with the kids about the chickens, sheep and the highland cow and her tiny baby!!! He let them hold the chickens as they were pottering about which was such a lovely thing! The pods are absolutely gleaming clean aswell as all the facilities- toilets/ showers etc.... not a spec of dust even on a farm! We have come straight home to tell all our friends and were already planning our return.

Gostou Location, Pod, size, the quietness.

Não gostou Showers could be better, TV didn’t work, limited washing facilities due to maintenance needed.
Pods could do with having a bin in them, as the recycling facilities are excellent.

Gostou Had a great stay. The campsite is lovely clean well maintained with lots of things for the kids to do in any weathers. The owner is kind and welcoming and gave us lots of good recommendations. Perfect for exploring the lakes. The cabins are lovely and warm.

Gostou Views and proximity to Windermere and Coniston Water. Microwave and kettle helpful. Mattresses in place. You don’t need to take much stuff. Kids enjoyed football field, table tennis and table football.

Não gostou The lodges need painting outside, but they’re warm and dry inside, so who cares really.
