Heading out into the woods is a thoroughly peaceful and relaxed experience at Holistic Woods, a next-to-nature site in the heathlands of Sutton, part of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You’ll only be 10 minutes’ drive from Woodbridge here, but this is a properly rural escape where you can set up on grass pitches or in a secluded corner of the woods. Each pitch takes up to five people, so you can bring a small gang with you (or book several and have a larger gang) – and dogs are very welcome to come along and join in the fun too. Nature has been left pretty much untouched here, so pitches have a wild-camping vibe to them – but with the addition of portable toilets for added convenience. Please note that campfires can’t be permitted on site though, because there’s dense woodland all around. A small supermarket is about a mile away for any supplies you may need, and there are plenty of shops, pubs and places to eat around Woodbridge. This is a fabulous spot for hikers and bike riders, who can set out to explore the heath just around the site, head off to the banks of the nearby River Deben or stroll by the seaside (the east coast is only about 10 minutes’ drive away). It’s also possible to walk to the historic site of Sutton Hoo in half an hour or so.

Gostou What a gem! The site is absolutely beautiful. The pitches are really big and you really have a lot of space to choose from. You really are sleeping in the forest! Excellent manager, guided us very kindly. Lots to explore around the area, including Suton Hoo.

Não gostou Toilets could improve but the quality of where you are makes this site so much worth it!

Gostou This is the second time I have stayed at this site. I loved it the first time and I loved it this time. Very secluded pitches and not on top of one another. My only concern were the toilets could of been checked more.

Gostou Wild nature of site - very informal and options to find your own space in the forest or more open fields. Facilities are pretty basic, but that is as described so no issue with that. Plenty of space between pitches when we were there.

Não gostou The road past the site is pretty busy even at night so there was quite a bit of road noise. May be better if you are in the forest as we were in open fields. The signage on arrival wasn’t brilliant to show you where to go although the owner / host was very helpful when we rang him.

Gostou The peacefulness & the beautiful surroundings. Being in the forest is truly a soul-fuelling experience, calming the mind & taking you away from the daily hustle & bustle.

Não gostou The portaloo toilets - fabulous addition to support toilet needs to what is essentially wild camping, but good grief......other campers could do with being (even slightly) respectful - clean up afterwards & be thoughtful of others who'll be using them.

Do gerente: Hi! Firstly i want to apogose for the loos. We were meant to have a unit built this year for loos and showers but that will be 2025 now. The loos are in the sun constantly which contribute to the smelliest smells. I personally cant stand portaloos and the company providing them have failed us massively. In my 3 years being here ive never been so embarrassed. This weekend especially has given me complaints. They are cleaned regularly. And usually emptied once a week. But like i say; they were not. Huge huge sorry from me.

Some intriguing things lurk in the natural areas around here… including lots of wildlife like owls, hares and Chinese water deer at Orford Ness National Nature Reserve (20 minutes’ drive) and the rather more unexpected UFO landing site hidden away in Rendlesham Forest (10 minutes). You can also seek out an ancient royal burial site stuffed with treasures at Sutton Hoo (half an hour’s walk). What else might you expect to find in these rural surrounds? Perhaps a collection of friendly animals at Easton Farm Park (20 minutes’ drive), Tudor towers at Framlingham Castle (20 minutes) or wine tours at Shawsgate Vineyard (25 minutes)?
