Fancy hols watching the world drift by – and getting out and about in it? Chug along to Whixall Marina, 15 minutes’ drive from the pretty Shropshire town of Whitchurch. Whether making a quick stop on lengthy canal explores or staying put for a waterside getaway, this site is in just the right spot. On the banks of the Prees branch of the Llangollen canal, it’s well placed for puttering along in barges, and is about 20 leisurely water-filled miles from the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Ramblers and bikers can stay in the dry instead, following paths along the canalside or wandering Whixall Moss five minutes away – just the sort of jaunts canine chums will want to be along for... There’s plenty here for stay-putters too: when lazy days on site are called for, there’s a café serving hot drinks and meals throughout the day, and the café terrace is a prime spot for sitting to watch the barges, ducks and swans pass by. Too much bustle? Find a seat on the ‘village green’ next to the café and take in the calm pace of the marina while sipping on a tea or coffee.

Hop To It cabana (duas camas de solteiro, proibido para pets)

Gostou Lovely shepherds hut with comfortable beds, kitchenette had all needed including plates and cutlery and fire pit with logs to use. Great location overlooking canal with daily visits from the swans, nice walks nearby. Clean toilet and shower facilities only a short walk from huts.Nice cafe onsite, good phone signal and WiFi in cafe. We had a great couple of days!!

Gostou What a fabulous place to stay!
The huts are thoughtfully decorated and equipped with everything that we needed for a lovely weekend, including fire wood for a BBQ, camping chairs and everything we needed for washing up.
The location beside the canal and near the marina is very peaceful, with some great walks on the doorstep and interesting places to visit nearby (the Grocott Heritage Centre was really interesting!).
The facilities are really not far from the huts and are very clean.
Everyone was very helpful and friendly and accommodating.
We cannot recommend the accommodation highly enough.

Gostou Peace and quiet , muffins on arrival. Fire pits. Lovely Shepard's hut with all you need supplied. Marina cafe very good. Staff friendly and helpful.

Gostou Very cute accomodation, basic but is as advertised. We really enjoyed our weekend here and there are lots of beauty spots in the area to see. The cafe was lovely too. We also had a problem during but it was dealt with very quickly!

Não gostou Not neccicarily a dislike but the toilets/shower are a little walk from the accommodation and sometimes a bit busy

Gostou I had the best time. Staying in a shepherd hut all on my lonesome. I had a microwave a kettle and a fridge. A very comfortable bed and a picnic bench and a fire pit which I lit on my last night and ate my tea by. Lots of lovely wildlife around, canal walks and a wonderful cafe where I had my lunches. I felt very safe and proud that I had stayed all alone. A tick on my bucket list to have stayed alone somewhere. I would definitely return here. So peaceful and inviting. Very clean and accommodating. Thank you Whixall Marina. ‘I’ll be back’ ❤️

Não gostou It's a shame the toilets and showers were a short walk, but on the plus side, they were spotlessly clean.

Gostou Campsite was spotless
Breakfast was lovely
Shower block spotless cleaner in by 0800 daily. Showers hot.
Accomodation clean comfortable bed
Watch the white owl flying around.

Não gostou Breakfast price misleading with the item add ons etc. shouldn't have to pay a set price if you just want 2 poached eggs that would cost £5. Some families budget and this would really hit there pocket hard on the first day of holiday.
The bushes at the back need to he cut down on the foxes den kept us up smacking the shepherds hut with the wind and unsettled one of my dogs.

Nature-filled days are a cinch hereabouts: the site’s a 15-minute drive from Fenn’s, Whixall and Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve on the England-Wales border, where there are rare dragonflies and craneflies to spy, as well as pretty moths and butterflies, 166 species of bird, and lots of adders and lizards. For outdoorsy days with a touch more control within half an hour of base, head instead for Cholmondeley Castle gardens or the award-winning Hodnet Hall Gardens. Both are in the grounds of stately homes, bringing a touch of olde-worlde glamour to visits, and the fab Hawkstone Park Follies is 15 minutes away for an 18th-century fantasy theme park. If Hawkstone has historians excited, make further stops at sprawling old piles like Attingham Park, Whittington Castle, Shrewsbury Castle and Chirk Castle – all within 40 minutes – or traipse along to Ironbridge Gorge to get a feeling for Britain’s Industrial Age with pit stops at Blists Hill Victorian Town, the china museum or the oldest cast-iron bridge in the world. From Victorian towns to modern-day ones: trundle along next to the town of Shrewsbury, where there are museums and galleries, jailhouse tours, and boat tours along the Severn. Too slow-paced? It’s an 80-minute drive to Alton Towers, if hair-raising ‘coaster rides get blood pumping…
