Time for a slice of the simple life? Grab a peaceful Lake District pitch at Church Lane Campsite and immerse yourselves in proper scenic countryside with few distractions. This back to basics site has life’s essentials in place – in the form of drinking water, toilets and showers – but hasn’t gone overboard with other facilities, so you’ll simply be left to set up your space and soak up the gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. Pitches here are on grass with trees around the field to provide a bit of shelter and shade – and the views are pretty much green as far as you can see… This setting gives the place a remote atmosphere that’s well suited to adventurous travellers, nature lovers and serenity-seeking couples or families. That said, it’s not actually all that remote – handily, you’ll be able to drive to Kendal in about 10 minutes for cultural attractions, shops and places to eat, and popular Windermere is about the same distance in the other direction. Closer still are a smart rural restaurant and the little village of Crook, a mile away and the home of the local pub – both excellent options for a good feed.

Gostou I liked that fact that I could pitch next to my motorbike. The showers and toilets were immaculately clean. The site is on a slope but there are numerous level pitches

Não gostou Slight slope to the site nothing to get concerned about even camping at the top and riding a motorcycle down in the rain 😊 The site was difficult to ride to using google maps but well sign posted when near by so didn’t need the what three words which is available.

Gostou We loved our stay here - this was our first ever camping trip too! The facilities are basic, however for a short stay it’s great value. The highlight for us was the location, the site is only around a 5/10 minute drive to Bowness/Windermere which has a great array of restaurants/bars and of course the stunning lake, we hired a self drive boat for lake windermere which cost just around £40pp for 2 hrs - we booked this at a lakeside ticket desk. The site is also a short drive from Ambleside, where i’d recommend starting a beautiful circular walk that takes in Rydal waters and Rydal Caves (i used the ‘all trails’ app for that walk). The site owners also seemed to visit the site most evenings and were so helpful, kind and welcoming. The shower’s we’re basic but had hot water and did the job, the site does use portaloo’s which we’re a little rough to be totally honest, however they were kept as clean as possible. Overall we had a great stay and would certainly return!

Gostou Great site, the guys working were so so helpful and friendly. Would definitely come back. The showers were amazing and so was the location.

Service/data was abit in and out but I managed to receive and send messages when required.

Quiet enough to chill out, but not removed from people too much.

Gostou Lovely pop up campsite across 2 fields. Pitch where you want. Good portaloos kept clean. 2 showers - which were lovely and warm. 2 sinks for washing / washing up ... Sometimes small queues but nice to chat with others. Lovely views. 2 good pubs .. best to drive not walk. Bank holiday weekend and it great. Nice staff running it. And only 20 mins or so from Windermere. Good fun. Thanks to the team.

If you’re here to explore the attractions of the Lake District National Park, there’s surely no better place to start than Windermere (10 minutes’ drive) – it is, after all, England’s largest natural lake. Boat trips and various watersports (including kayaking and paddleboarding) can help you get out on the water, or you can stick to the lakeshore for a walk, a visit to the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (10 minutes) or adventure activities at Brockhole on Windermere (15 minutes). Other nearby natural attractions include Kentmere (20 minutes) and Rydal Cave (25 minutes); but if you hit a rainy day, maybe you’d prefer to head to Kendal (10 minutes) for its various museums and arts venues, or to Levens Hall (15 minutes), a little way south of the town. Something to keep the kids happy? Try the animal experiences at Lakeland Farm Visitor Centre (15 minutes) or Predator Experience – Wolf Experience UK (25 minutes). Or, if you’d like a bit of peace for a while, lose them in the labyrinth at Lakeland Maze Farm Park (15 minutes).
