Likte We have just returned from a stay at Bolbec Manor Campsite and came away feeling that it has fantastic potential.
On arrival we received a warm, friendly welcome from the owners and were even given the choice of which pitch we preferred. The caravan pitches are spacious, private and well screened. The views across the moors are absolutely spectacular and is the site's biggest attraction.
The location is excellent. Derwent Reservoir is only around a mile away. The site is also well placed for visiting Corbridge, Hexham and Weardale. There is a pub next door.
We loved the owners' free-ranging hens wandering around the site.
Likte ikke However, there are a few things that prospective visitors, from a caravanning perspective should be aware of. For a site with 25+ pitches, there are only two male toilets, two female toilets and two showers (we don't use caravan shower, our choice, hence why we book sites with shower facilities). On Saturday morning I showered mid morning and there was no hot water left. I was told the hot water is solar heated and stored in a tank, providing around an hour's worth of hot water, which had already been used. Thankfully, I did have a lovely hot shower the following morning, when the site wasn't as full.
The toilet and shower block is very basic and appears to have been built using a mixture of different materials, giving it a rather makeshift feel. That same impression is reflected throughout parts of the site, where several areas look as though they are still a work in progress or only partially finished. The chemical waste disposal consists of an old toilet in a wooden shed with no water supply to it, which was inadequate. I had to carry buckets of water from a nearby tap just to flush away the waste. As a result, I wasn't able to properly rinse out my caravan toilet cassette on site, and the disposal area itself also needed a thorough cleaning. The washing-up area also didn't provide enough hot water for washing dishes effectively.
At the current price, we didn't feel the facilities offered good value. We've recently stayed at an exact same priced site in Derbyshire with multiple toilets and showers, a dog wash, laundry room, several washing-up stations and immaculate facilities throughout.
We genuinely hope the owners continue investing in the site because it really does have the potential to become an outstanding campsite in a beautiful location.

Plass for campingvogn på hardt underlag full service
Likte We had a lovely stay at The Firs Caravan and Motorhome Site in Belper.
From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We had a small issue when checking in, and they sorted it out straight away without any fuss, which was really appreciated.
The site itself is very tidy and well looked after, with large, spacious pitches and a wonderfully quiet, peaceful atmosphere. It was the perfect place to relax. The shower and toilet blocks are a little dated, but they were kept absolutely immaculate throughout our stay, which says a lot about how well the site is maintained.
As dog owners, we also enjoyed the little dog walking area, which was a nice bonus. We had a meal at The Spanker Inn just down the road and can highly recommend it - the food was excellent!
Overall, we had a fantastic stay and wouldn't hesitate to return. We would definitely recommend The Firs to anyone looking for a peaceful, friendly, and well-maintained caravan and motorhome site. We'll certainly be back!
