If you don't find a whole heap of things to keep you cheerfully busy at the Périgord Noir site Domaine des Chênes Verts, then it could be respectfully submitted that you're a particularly fussy sort. For this lively and family-friendly campsite in the Dordogne has a pile of things to do for all ages and tastes: on water, on land and indoors in the evenings: get prepped for some action.
The waterpark here is smashing for starters, open all season and with an outdoor pool and two 14-metre-long waterslides. Saturday night swimming sessions and water games are arranged in the big folks' pool in high season.
And there's an indoor pool too, heated to 28°C and with a small area for small sorts that's equipped with seahorse and hippopotamus water jets. And a sports area, with a football field, basketball court, volleyball court, seven pétanque courts and three table tennis tables… And bike hire, a petting zoo, a playground, fishing, a TV room and a fitness room open in high season…
Not done yet: a stay at Domaine des Chênes Verts also comes with a full and varied entertainment programme arranged by the friendly team in high season, including archery, a kids' club, aqua gym, jogging and tournaments of water polo, table tennis and pétanque – and then into the night with bingo, karaoke, disco, cabaret and other pleasant pursuits.
The site restaurant dishes up mighty tasty meals (see pics) and has themed gastronomic nights for Périgord meals and the likes of moules frites and paella – or (and?) you could join the team to investigate the local gastronomy on an excursion to nearby Calviac.
Another fizzing fact about this fab family site? It holds fireworks displays twice yearly too, once on Bastille Day and the second on the mid-August French bank holiday.

This is lovely land, deep in the Périgord Noir district with caves, gorges, parks, gardens and over a thousand Dordogne châteaux – and the cuisine is right tasty too.
Domaine des Chênes Verts is 15 minutes' drive from Sarlat, a medieval town mainly free of modern development and where you might reckon time has stood still… Its main sights are its medieval cathedral, big Benedictine abbey, the Manoir de Gisson and the bell tower (take the glass elevator up for Sarlat city views), but also take time to get to the indoor food market or to lounge around the main square, the Place de la Liberté.
Hiking and cycling paths are available near des Chênes Verts and along the Dordogne river.
